Faber School staff and students learned about Memorial Day with help from the American Legion and instruction aid and veteran Don Musson. Dunellen American Legion Post #119 lead off the ceremony with an honor guard. This was followed by Choir Director, Michelle Nannas leading the audience in the Star Spangled Banner. Students then learned about the history and importance of the day. Bill Lamire announced the American Legion’s coloring contest winners: first place went to 4th grade student Grace Walker, second place went to 5th grade student Sophia Valez and third place went to 4th grade student Anaya Henry. Dunellen Police promotes Slow Down Initiative at Faber

On Thursday, April 21, Dunellen police officers gathered with children from John P. Faber Elementary School to expand the Middlesex County “Slow Down in Our Town” pedestrian safety program. This program was created by Freeholder James Polos in 2006 in an effort to raise awareness to pedestrian safety. In an effort to combat speeding in residential neighborhoods, “Slow Down in Our Town” enlists the use of a signs supplied by the Middlesex County Traffic Safety Program funded by New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety. Over the next few weeks, twenty signs will be placed in the areas surrounding Faber Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School and Washington Park. Dunellen Preschool Program Applications Due By May

The Dunellen Board of Education (BOE) is currently accepting applications through May 15, 2016 for its tuition-based integrated preschool program at John P. Faber School. The 2016-2017 school year will be the first time the BOE will allow applications from surrounding school districts. Admission is selected by a lottery system with residents of Dunellen getting preferred access to the program. The two preschool classes will consist of 15 to 18 students, several of whom require special education service, with the remainder being typically developing 4 year olds. The program based on the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards will be supervised by Director of Special Services Michael Botti along with Faber School Principal Gary “JR” Lubisco. Dunellen School Celebrates Reading Week

Faber Elementary School celebrated National Education Association’s signature reading motivation and awareness program, Read Across America last week. Although the event is traditionally held on March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss, Faber students and faculty celebrated all week. Faculty decorated their classroom doors, most with Dr. Seuss-related themes and several children wore “Cat in the Hat” hats. Elizabeth Willoughby, John P. Faber Media Specialist, invited several celebrity readers to the school. To kick off the festivities on March 2, Dunellen resident Jamie Webster who writes under the pen name Jamie M. Miller read her children’s book “The Boy in the Yellow Raincoat” which deals with raising awareness and understanding of Sensory Processing Disorders. Continue Reading →

Dunellen participates in Walk Your Child to School Day

This morning John P. Faber Elementary School students along with their parents walked in the 16th Annual International Walk Your Child to School Day (WYCTSD). They were joined by members of the school staff and PTO as well as Dunellen firefighters, EMS personnel, and policemen. Dunellen has been participating in the international event for over a decade, rallied by Mayor Bob Seader who is an avid walker. Dunellen’s WYCTSD is currently organized by Dunellen resident Diana Starace who is the injury prevention coordinator at RWJUH and Safe Kids Middlesex County. Walk Your Child to School Day, October 7

John P. Faber Elementary School students, parents, staff and volunteers will be walking in the 16th Annual International Walk Your Child to School Day on October 7 starting at 7:30 a.m.
Participants will meet up at two main starting points, St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church and Columbia Park, and travel together using safety tips they have learned. There will be giveaways for all participating students. The event is co-sponsored by Safe Kids Middlesex County Coalition which is led by Dunellen resident Diana J. Starace.
