The Middlesex County Office of Aging and Disabled Services’ annual juried Senior Citizen Art Contest & Exhibition is scheduled for July 18 through August 11 at The Studio Art Gallery at Middlesex County College’s Performing Arts Center, 2600 Woodbridge Avenue in Edison. Any artist, age 60 or over, may submit one entry completed within the past three years to the Middlesex County exhibit. The entry may not have been previously entered in a County Senior Art Show or in the New Jersey Senior Citizens Annual Juried Art Show. Memorial Day Assembly at Faber School

Faber School staff and students learned about Memorial Day with help from the American Legion and instruction aid and veteran Don Musson. Dunellen American Legion Post #119 lead off the ceremony with an honor guard. This was followed by Choir Director, Michelle Nannas leading the audience in the Star Spangled Banner. Students then learned about the history and importance of the day. Bill Lamire announced the American Legion’s coloring contest winners: first place went to 4th grade student Grace Walker, second place went to 5th grade student Sophia Valez and third place went to 4th grade student Anaya Henry. Paint the Pavement Art Contest Now Accepting Entrants

Keep Middlesex Moving, Inc. is holding an art contest to promote awareness of distracted walking. In 2005, there were 256 emergency room visits attributed to distracted walking. By 2010, that number rose more than 500%, not including visits to personal physicians. Whether texting, talking, listening to music, conversing with friends, or daydreaming, distracted pedestrians are a danger to themselves and others. Paint the Pavement is an educational campaign to raise awareness of distracted walking with painted messages or pictures on the sidewalk. Continue Reading →
