Dunellen among towns under drought watch

Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin today issued a drought watch for New Jersey’s Northeast, Central, and Coastal North water supply regions, urging residents in the affected areas to voluntarily conserve water and for the rest of the state to practice wise water use due to continued dry weather and above-average temperatures. Dunellen is part of the Central region along with other towns in Middlesex, Somerset, and Union counties. The drought watch is prompted by continued rainfall deficits that have decreased reservoir, ground water and streamflow levels in the three regions. The purpose of the watch is to raise public awareness, formally alert all water suppliers in the region of the situation, and to seek voluntary cooperation to preserve existing supplies in the affected regions, with water demand still high. The first sign that spring is near – Maple sugaring

The end of winter brings the end of snow but it brings something even sweeter… maple syrup. Here are some maple sugaring events not far from Dunellen. Somerset County Environmental Education Center

Potential Blizzard Starting Monday Evening

The National Weather Service-Mt. Holly has announced that “one of the largest snow storms of the winter” will impact Central Jersey Monday into Tuesday. Blizzard watches were already in effect for shore areas early Sunday morning because of high winds. Snow accumulations in the amount of 6′ to 16′ are currently expected as a result of the storm.
