Dunellen Police Report | December 2017

On 12/29/2017 at 7:47 am – Police responded to Fairview Avenue for the report of criminal mischief. The victim reported that an unknown person had damaged the driver’s side mirror of their vehicle while parked overnight. Patrol had responded to this area at approximately 3:30 am on the report of a suspicious person but had been unable to locate anyone at that time. On 12/27/2017 at 4:01 pm – Police received a walk-in report from a resident of Whittier Avenue for credit card fraud. This case remains open. Continue Reading →

“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign starts Dec. 8

Law enforcement officials from the Dunellen Police Department will be cracking down on drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs as part of the annual end of year “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” statewide campaign. Beginning December 8, 2017 and continuing through January 1, 2018, local and state law enforcement officials will conduct saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated. The national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” effort endeavors to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving through a combination of high-visibility enforcement and public education. “During the last five years New Jersey has experienced nearly 40,000 alcohol involved crashes resulting in more than 750 fatalities,” said Sgt. Dunellen Police Report | October 2017

On 10/31/2017 at 11:58 am – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after actively interfering with officers investigating an incident on Center Street. She was processed and later turned over to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office on a separate matter. On 10/29/2017 at 3:29 am – A Plainfield resident was arrested for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on North Washington Avenue for driving completely on the wrong side of the road. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released to a sober family member. On 10/28/2017 at 11:30 pm – A Plainfield resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop in the parking lot of a North Avenue business. Continue Reading →

Dunellen Police Raising Funds for Cancer Research

In the next month, several members of the Dunellen Police Department will be looking a little hairier than normal. That’s because the department, along with several neighboring police departments, is participating in No-Shave November. No-Shave November’s mission is to not only raise funds for cancer research and treatment but to educate the population about preventative measures. For over six years, participants around the globe have put down their razors and foregone their hair appointments, raising over $3.5 million. Funds raised in 2017 will go toward three organizations which rated well on Charity Navigator: Prevent Cancer Foundation which focuses on the prevention and early detection of cancer; Fight Colorectal Cancer which focuses on advocacy and research to end one of the deadliest cancers in America; and St. Continue Reading →

Dunellen Police Report | August 2017

On 8/31/2017 at 8:02 am – Police received a walk-in report of fraud. A resident of Front Street reported that over the previous year they had been defrauded; this incident has been forwarded to the Detective Bureau. On 8/31/2017 at 7:11 pm – Police received a walk-in report from a resident of Plainfield that her cell phone had been stolen while shopping at a North Avenue business. On 8/28/2017 at 10:01 pm – Police responded to the report of a vehicle fire on Front Street. The arriving units located a fully involved house fire and ensured all residents had safely evacuated. Dunellen Police Report | July 2017

On 7/31/2017 at 9:05 pm – A Pennsylvania resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing where he experienced a medical issue and was transported to RWJ New Brunswick by EMS. A blood sample was obtained and he was turned over to hospital staff. On 7/30/2017 at 1:21 am – A Piscataway resident was arrested for contempt of court following investigation into several individuals seen entering unlocked vehicles. He was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Wall Township. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later issued a new court date. Continue Reading →

Dunellen Police Report | June 2017

The Dunellen Police Department issued a public safety announcement on July 1, 2017, in response to the number of motor vehicle thefts and burglaries mentoned in this report. On 6/28/2017 at 3:36 am – A Plainfield resident and a Pennsylvania resident were arrested for contempt of court after police responded to a call regarding a pair of disorderly persons at a North Avenue business. The Plainfield resident was found to have warrants out of Plainfield and South Plainfield while the Pennsylvania resident had warrants out of Spotswood and Atlantic City. The Plainfield resident was turned over to Plainfield Police Department on their warrant while the Pennsylvania resident posted bail and was released after receiving new court dates. Public Safety Advisory Regarding Motor Vehicles

In recent weeks, the Dunellen Borough community and several of its surrounding towns have fallen victim to a series of Motor Vehicle Thefts and Car Burglaries. While the Law Enforcement agencies work together to identify and prosecute those responsible, Dunellen Police are asking residents for assistance in ending the recent rash of crimes. Residents are strongly urged to follow the following safety guidelines:

• If available, always park your vehicle in a locked garage. • Always lock the doors to your vehicle, even when you are away from the vehicle for a short time, NEVER leave an unattended vehicle running. • Always leave vehicles fully secured, with windows up, doors locked and sunroofs closed, even when parked in your driveway.
