State Transportation Trust Fund to be discussed at RVRC meeting

Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski, chairman of the New Jersey Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee, will be the featured speaker at the Raritan Valley Rail Coalition (RVRC)’s meeting on January 26. He will give an update on the state Legislature’s latest efforts to increase funding for the Transportation Trust Fund. The fund is projected to run out of money by July 15. The Rail Coalition trustees also will provide an update on the initiative’s website (www.raritanvalleyrail.com) and social-media campaign. They will present highlights from the January 12th debut of weekday evening one-seat ride service to Penn Station New York and from their recent meeting with NJ Transit on the one-seat ride initiative. New Year, New Mass Transit Schedules

NJ Transit trains and buses will start running on new schedules in the next few weeks. A new rail schedule will take effect on Sunday, January 11 on the Raritan Valley Line (RVL). This schedule reflects the new one-seat ride in and out of New York Penn Station during off-peak evening hours during the week. The RVL already goes directly into Manhattan during off-peak morning and early afternoon hours. The adjusted bus schedules will go into effect January 17, 2015. Continue Reading →

Among the items to be discussed are annual professional services contracts, textbook approval, and the approval for bank account maintenance. Recycling Schedule Announced for 2015

According to a press release posted on the Middlesex County Improvement Agency (MCIA) website, there is one big change with its recycling program. Although Dunellen residents will continue to expect recycling pickups every other Wednesday, there will be no printed schedule sent to households in 2015. In the press release, Ed Windas, MCIA division recycling manager cites the reason. “It really does fly in the face of our mission here. Dunellen Destroyers to play in state championships

Tomorrow, the Dunellen Destroyers will go against the Shabazz Bulldogs in the North 2 Group 1 football final. The game will take place at 1 p.m. at Kean University’s Kean Alumni Stadium. Admission is $5.50 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens. Free parking is available at the stadium. Fans planning to take advantage of another transportation option, NJ Transit’s Raritan Valley Line, should purchase train tickets in advance of the 10:30am or 11:35am departures, as there are only two ticket machines available. Halloween Parade 2014

The 65th Annual Halloween Parade was held on Sunday, October 26, 2014. This year’s Grand Marshall was Clem Santy who was Dunellen’s recreation director for 52 years. Judging took place in Washington Park. All participants received a ribbon from Mayor Bob Seader and pretzels from Santy. Local talent shines at Dunellen HarvestFest

Last Sunday’s HarvestFest hosted by the Dunellen Downtown Management Organization not only had vendor booths and activities for children. It also had original music and dance performances throughout the day. Gravity and Dunellen Skylight Theater Productions arranged the live entertainment. Much of the work was done by Dunellen resident Chris North who also MCd the day’s events. Tayla Grace opened the festival by singing songs from her Country Pop album “My Story.” Continue Reading →
