Local residents invited to “Great Backyard Bird Count”

The Rutgers Master Gardeners of Middlesex County will host “Great Backyard Bird Count,” a free event
on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Davidson’s Mill Pond Park, located at 42 Riva Ave., South Brunswick, NJ (rain date Sunday, Feb. 15).

Beginning birders and experts are encouraged to attend. The start time is not formal. Rather, the Master Gardeners encourage people to use the park’s nearly 400 acres of wooded trails and fields for their count.

The event will be held simultaneously with the Audubon Society and Cornell University Lab’s “Great Backyard Bird Count” (http://birds.audubon.org/great-backyard-bird-count) helping scientists record migration patterns. Participants should bring their own binoculars and field guides and dress appropriately for outdoor hiking.

Master Gardeners will offer hot coffee for participants from noon to 2:30 p.m. within the park at the EARTH Center, home to Middlesex County’s Extension office. To arrange for a tour, RSVP: evans@aesop.rutgers.edu.
