Dunellen High School (DHS) was recently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as #987 out of 19,400 public high schools in the United States (#36 out of 398 in New Jersey). This places DHS as one of the top 5% of public high schools in the country.
The rankings were based on the individual school’s performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.
Only four other schools in a ten-mile radius were also recognized. Two received gold status: Ridge High School (Basking Ridge, NJ), ranked #177 nationally and #7 in NJ; and Chatham High School, ranked #209 nationally and #9 in NJ. The other two joined DHS with silver status: J.P. Stevens High School (Edison, NJ) ranked #604 nationally and #27 in NJ; and Woodbridge High School ranked #1,962 nationally and #43 in NJ.

To be eligible for a state ranking, schools must be awarded national gold or silver medals. In NJ, there were 25 with gold medals, 19 with silver medals and 32 with bronze medals. The highest ranking school in NJ was High Technology High School in Monmouth County.
