Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Joe Bonamassa, and Bob Lanza… All are currently on Billboard’s Blues Album charts. Only one regularly performs in Dunellen.
Bob Lanza was born in Newark and has lived most of his life in Central Jersey, currently residing in Bridgewater. A respected blues guitarist and vocalist, he has been very involved in the NJ blues community for decades, helping new bands establish their music networks. Lanza has backed up harmonica player James Cotton and other blues legends but his recent success has been through his own band.
The band’s most recent release on the Connor Ray Music label, “Time To Let Go” is ranked #5 on the Billboard Blues Charts for the week of December 17. Two songs on the album are particularly meaningful to Lanza: the title track “Time To Let Go” is dedicated to his mother and brother who passed away while he was recording the album; and “When the Sun Comes Up” which was written to remind everyone that every day “you’re given a restart button.”
Although Lanza admits that blues can be a hard sell in NJ, he has a strong local fanbase. Last week’s performance at Roxy and Duke’s Roadhouse was done in front of a packed crowd, many who were dancing on a makeshift dance floor.
The album is available through Amazon [AFFILIATE LINK], iTunes, and CD BABY .
The Bob Lanza Band will be heading down to perform in Houston in the beginning of 2017. In the meantime, you have one last time in 2016 to catch them in NJ. The Bob Lanza Band will be performing 9 pm Saturday, December 17 at Maggie Murray’s Pub House, 119 N. Washington Avenue, Dunellen. Admission is free.
