Two former Dunellen residents are running for political office.
Ed Albertson, now a resident of Heath, OH is running as the Democratic nominee against Republican incumbent Pat Tiberi for Ohio’s 12th Congressional District seat.
According to Albertson, he lived in Dunellen from “about 1980 until 1985.” He was elected to the Board of Education in 1984 and resigned 15 months into his three-year term when he moved to Whitehouse Station. He has fond recollection of one particular accomplishment. “We established the Dunellen Track Club that offered physical training and preparation for the Junior Olympics Track Meet each Spring and a Halloween fun run in the Fall.”
Bill McKenna, who grew up in Dunellen, was inspired by his father Joe McKenna who was a councilman in the 1970s to run for office himself. At age 24, he won a position on the Dunellen borough council and served from 1998-2002. McKenna relocated to the Washington, DC area for a job opportunity and is now living in Herndon, VA. He has knocked on over 1500 doors in town with the goal of becoming Herndon’s newest council member.
