Dunellen Police Report | May 2016

On 5/30/2016 at 1:44 pm – Patrol responded to a 911 call for a possible drug overdose at a North Avenue residence. Officers arrived to find an unconscious female surrounded by evidence of heroin use. Patrol administered two doses of Narcan Naloxone which reverses the effect of opiates. After the second dose, the victim regained consciousness. Folds of suspected heroin were recovered from the scene.

On 5/25/2016 at 2:49 pm – Patrol was alerted to a suspect attempting to pass a fraudulent prescription at a North Avenue pharmacy. The suspect was reported to be a 30-40 year old black female with a visible mustache, purple shirt, and blue jeans. She had fled on foot once she realized police were being contacted. No suspect was located and no medications were dispensed.

On 5/25/2016 at approximately 11:04 pm – Three arrests resulted from patrol vehicle’s automatic license plate recognition scan in the area of South Washington Avenue and Orange Street. The scan alerted patrol that the Ocean Township resident who owned the vehicle was wanted for burglary. Patrol followed the vehicle, confirming an active warrant for the registered owner, and initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle which occupied with three persons in the area of North Avenue and Washington Avenue. As police approached the vehicle, one passenger, later identified as burglary suspect, quickly exited the vehicle and fled northbound. Patrol gave chase on foot as the suspect ran through the back of several businesses and residential areas. After clearing a large jagged fence, the suspect was no longer in view. Patrol returned to secure the suspect’s vehicle and found that the two other occupants, a male and a female, had fled. With assistance from three Dunellen police officers, as well as several officers from Piscataway, the area was canvassed for the three suspects. At approximately 01:15 am on 5/26/2016, patrol stopped a suspicious vehicle in the area. Further investigation revealed that this was an Uber vehicle and that the two rear occupants were the same male and female who had fled the stop after the foot chase. The female occupant, a Brick Township resident, was arrested for several outstanding warrants. The driver, a Green Brook resident, was cited for driving with an expired license. At approximately 04:18 am, patrol notified officers of a suspicious male inside of a gas station at Washington Avenue and North Avenue. Officers responded and identifying the male as the wanted suspect, placed him under arrest. The Ocean Township resident was charged with resisting arrest by flight. He was treated at headquarters for injuries to his hand sustained while climbing the jagged fence. He was later transported to Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center in lieu of $5,000 bail as well as several no-bail warrants for burglary and shoplifting from other jurisdictions.

On 5/22/2016 at 7:48pm – A North Plainfield resident was arrested after the vehicle of which he was a passenger was stopped for a prohibited right turn on red. Upon speaking with the occupants, patrol detected an odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle. A vehicle search led to the discovery of a small portion of marijuana, a metal grinder, and an open container of an alcoholic beverage within the vehicle. He was placed under arrest and charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and minors in possession of alcoholic beverages. He was subsequently released with a pending court date.

On 5/16/2016 at 8:25pm – Two Newark residents were arrested after patrol responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Front Street and Washington Avenue. A check with dispatch revealed the driver of one of the vehicles had eight active warrants for his arrest. A passenger in his vehicle was found to have a no-bail warrant out of Essex County. Both parties were placed under arrest without incident and processed. The driver was subsequently released on his own recognizance with new court dates. The passenger was lodged in Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.

On 5/15/2016 at 6:15pm – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct along with multiple borough ordinance violations after police units were dispatched to the NJ Transit platform for an intoxicated male. Due to his level of intoxication, an ambulance was requested for evaluation. While awaiting the ambulance, the man tried to remove his penis from his pants several times after being told not to do so. He then removed his penis and urinated on the train platform directly in front of officers. After the arrest, he was subsequently released with a pending court date and transported to UMDNJ-Somerset Hospital for treatment.

On 5/15/2016 at 2:22am – Police on routine patrol observed a vehicle traveling with a headlight out on North Avenue and conducted a motor vehicle stop, requesting identification from both the driver and passenger. As the passenger reached into his pocket to remove his identification, a bag containing suspected cocaine fell out of his pocket into plain view. The passenger, a North Plainfield resident was placed under arrest. Further investigation also revealed an open container of alcohol beneath the passenger seat. The passanger was charged with possession of CDS (Cocaine) and issued multiple traffic citations. He was fingerprinted, processed, and later released after posting bail.

On 5/11/2016 at 9:08pm – A Dunellen resident was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated with minor as passenger, child neglect, obstructing the administration of law, and refusal to submit breath samples, after police responded to a report of a possible intoxicated driver on Third Street. Patrol observed a suspicious vehicle in the area that also had items obstructing the driver’s view. He conducted a motor vehicle stop and identified the driver as she had been arrested for DWI in the same vehicle several nights earlier. Patrol observed several indicators of alcohol impairment while speaking with the driver who was asked to take field sobriety tests. The driver then became extremely uncooperative and attempted to pull away from officers and enter her home. She was then placed under arrest after refusing to participate in any sobriety testing. She also refused to submit to breath samples while being processed. She was lodged in Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center after failing to post bail.

On 5/9/2016 at 7:53pm – A Dunellen resident was placed under arrest and charged with theft and criminal trespass after patrol units were dispatched to a South Avenue residence regarding a verbal dispute over a lawn mower. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated she observed the suspect enter her backyard and steal her lawn mower. The suspect who was in possession of the mower was subsequently released with a pending court date.

On 5/8/2016 at 12:13am – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with DWI and disorderly conduct. While on the scene at an unrelated call for service, patrol observed her to be highly intoxicated. Shortly after clearing the initial incident, patrol witnessed the woman enter her vehicle and drive a short distance. He conducted a motor vehicle stop and field sobriety tests. The driver was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. She was also charged with disorderly conduct for yelling loudly and cursing while in a residential neighborhood during the evening. She was released to a sober party with a pending court date.

On 5/7/2016 at 2:37am – A Manville resident was arrested for DWI after police units responded to a report of an erratic driver pulled into the parking lot of a North Avenue business. Shortly thereafter, patrol observed a vehicle matching the description exit the parking lot without its headlights activated along with several other motor vehicle violations, and conducted a motor vehicle stop. Patrol believed the driver to be under the influence of alcohol and following field sobriety tests placed him under arrest for DWI. He was processed and later released to a sober party.

On 5/6/2016 at 10:46pm – On routine patrol, police spotted four individuals riding their bicycles in the middle of North Washington Avenue. Patrol made contact with the group and determined that one of them, a Plainfield resident had an active warrant out of Green Brook. He was placed under arrest, processed and later posted bail.

On 5/4/2016 at 12:58am – Patrol units were dispatched to a residence on Second Street for a reported verbal altercation. Upon arrival, officers determined one of the actors, a Dunellen resident had a warrant for her arrest out of Fanwood. She was placed under arrest without incident, processed, and released on her own recognizance.

On 5/1/2016 at 1:47am – A Piscataway resident was observed by patrol operating a vehicle without a seatbelt. Patrol conducted a motor vehicle stop when it was determined the driver had an active warrant out of Piscataway. He was placed under arrest, processed, and later posted bail.
