Dunellen Police Report | April 2016

[ETA 4/29-30/16 posts] On 4/30/16 at 1:56am – A New Brunswick resident was arrested and charged with DWI. Patrol observed a vehicle cut off another vehicle while making a turn on to New Market Road. While speaking with the driver, patrol detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and observed the driver’s eyes to be bloodshot and watery. He was then administered field sobriety tests and subsequently placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. Based on breath samples, the driver’s BAC was determined to be more than double the legal limit.

On 4/29/2016 at 11:09pm – A Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with DWI. Patrol observed a vehicle driving in the shoulder lane of South Washington Avenue and swerving over the double yellow line and conducted a motor vehicle stop. While speaking with the driver, patrol detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her vehicle and observed her eyes to be very watery. She was then administered standardized field sobriety tests and subsequently placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated.

On 4/29/16 at 6:35am – Patrol units were dispatched to the Quick Chek convenient store on North Avenue for a male panhandling in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect attempting to leave the area on a bicycle. After a short distance, the officers were able to catch up with the suspect, a Plainfield resident. Further investigation revealed that he had multiple arrests warrants from Bound Brook and Somerville. He was placed under arrest, processed and subsequently turned over to the Bound Brook Police Department.

On 4/24/16 @ 12:55am – A Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with two counts of contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on Washington Avenue. The vehicle was stopped for having expired registration. The driver was then discovered to have a suspended license and two active warrants for his arrest. He was arrested and brought to headquarters to be processed where he later posted bail and was released.

On 4/22/16 @ 10:32am – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with shoplifting after patrol was called to a North Avenue business for a report of a female placing items in her purse in the store. The suspect was stopped and the stolen items were found in her purse. She was arrested, processed and later released.

On 4/22/16 @ 3:39am – A Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana following a motor vehicle stop on Washington Avenue. The vehicle was stopped for speeding and going through a red light. During the stop, marijuana was found inside the vehicle. The suspect was arrested, processed and later released.

On 4/21/16 @ 12:53pm – A Newark resident was arrested and charged with contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on Washington Avenue. The vehicle was stopped because a random plate check revealed an active warrant for the registered owner. The suspect was arrested and brought to headquarters to be processed where he later posted bail and was released.

On 4/19/16 @ 11:17pm – A Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with hindering and unsworn falsification to authorities following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. The vehicle was stopped for having a headlight out and further investigation revealed that the vehicle also had a fraudulent temporary registration. The driver then lied about his name because he had a suspended license as well. He was arrested, processed and later was released after posting bail.

On 4/19/16 @ 11:06am – A Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on Pulaski Street. The vehicle was stopped for the registered owner having an outstanding warrant. She was arrested, processed and later turned over to Union County Sheriff’s Department for her warrant.

On 4/16/16 @ 12:58am – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with DWI and refusing to submit breath samples following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. The vehicle was stopped for tailgating another vehicle and swerving. The suspect was found to be intoxicated and was arrested. Once at headquarters, she also refused to give breath samples. She was processed and later released to a sober party.

On 4/13/16 @ 1:41am – A Middlesex resident was arrested and charged with eluding and possession of marijuana following a brief motor vehicle pursuit. The vehicle was seen involved in a drug transaction with another vehicle on South Second Street. Upon seeing the patrol car, the suspect vehicle as well as the second vehicle involved in the transaction both fled the scene. After a brief pursuit, one of the vehicles was located and the suspect was arrested. Inside the vehicle, a small bag of marijuana was found as well. The suspect was arrested, processed and later posted bail.

On 4/11/16 @ 7:54pm – A Bound Brook resident was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia following a motor vehicle stop on South Avenue. The vehicle was stopped for having a headlight out. Inside the vehicle, a jar containing marijuana was located as well as rolling papers. The suspect was arrested, processed and later released.

On 4/9/16 @ 2:26am – A Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with DWI, refusing to submit to breath samples, obstruction and two counts of disorderly conduct. Patrol was called to a North Avenue business for an intoxicated female causing a disturbance in the store. Upon arrival, the suspect was found in her vehicle preparing to leave. She was stopped and immediately became disorderly in the parking lot, yelling at officers and refusing to perform field sobriety tests. She was arrested and brought to headquarters for processing where she refused to give breath samples and refused to give pedigree information. She was processed and later turned over to a sober party. On her way out of headquarters, she began to scream again and kick the front door of police headquarters several times, leading to the second disorderly conduct charge. She was also charged with littering for throwing her traffic tickets on the sidewalk.

On 4/9/16 @ 12:11am – A Piscataway resident was arrested and charged with DWI following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. The vehicle was stopped for speeding, making an illegal right turn at a red light, and for swerving into the opposite lane of travel. The driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested. He was found to be double the legal limit. He was later released to a sober party.

On 4/5/16 @ 5:10pm – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on Walnut Street. The vehicle was stopped because a random plate check revealed the owner of the vehicle had an active warrant for his arrest. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was arrested for his warrant. He was processed and later posted bail.

On 4/1/16 @ 11:29pm – A New Providence resident was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after a motor vehicle stop on Washington Avenue. The vehicle was stopped for almost colliding with a patrol car. The driver then changed seats with the passenger and when told to exit the vehicle, he refused. He was then removed from the vehicle and physically resisted arrest. He was transported to headquarters where he was processed and later released.
