Four hospitalized after car crash

Four people were hospitalized after a two-vehicle accident at 11:20 am on April 6 at the intersection of South Washington Avenue and Walnut Street.

According to Sergeant Jeffrey Del Buono of the Dunellen Police Department’s Traffic Safety Division, one of the vehicles was traveling north on South Washington Avenue and failed to stop for a red light. The second vehicle was traveling east on Walnut Street and collided with the other vehicle in the intersection. One of the vehicles then struck a telephone pole.

The 45-year-old driver of one of the vehicles and her 66-year-old passenger were transported by ambulance to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital-Somerset. The Dunellen Fire Department used the jaws of life to extricate the 58-year-old driver and his 58-year-old passenger who were both entrapped in the other vehicle. Both were taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital-New Brunswick; the driver was transported by ambulance while his passenger was airlifted via North Star helicopter which used the Columbia Park football field as its landing pad.

The crash is being investigated by Sergeant Del Buono with the help from the Middlesex County Prosecutors Office.
