Dunellen High School’s Class of 2015 graduated Friday June 19, 2015 in Washington Park. The clouds held back the rain that had been threatening the outdoor ceremony which is a unique tradition that allows extended family, friends, and townsfolk to attend, no admittance tickets required.
This year’s class was comprised of 89 seniors. Wearing the school colors of red and blue, they entered the park two-by-two, having walked a block from Dunellen High School. Grace Amodeo, who will be attending Westminster Choir College in the fall sang the Star Spangled Banner and Kevin Bluni, secretary of the senior class led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Class president Robert Young gave the welcoming address and was followed by the high school madrigals performing “Down the Road.” Valedictorian Carolyn Doyle provided the retrospective, reminding the class of the memories they shared through the past thirteen years. Gary Lubisco, the assistant principal introduced the various presenters of the scholarship program. After giving a personal shout out to his mother, Martee Seraspe, class treasurer, led the class in the salute to parents, guardians, and teachers. Salutatorian Herg Zhang spoke about what the future will bring the Class of 2015.
Principal Paul Lynch officially presented the class to Acting Superintendent of Schools Patrick Piegari as having completed all graduation requirements. Piegari who previously was Executive County Superintendent for Middlesex County mentioned that this would be the last graduating class he would be accepting as he was leaving after fifty years in education.
George Johnson Jr., the President of the Dunellen Board of Education presented the diplomas to the graduates. The audience was boisterous, celebrating with clapping, yelling, and the use of a couple of vuvuzelas. After the choir sang “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” and the graduation band performed the Alma Mater, class vice president of Sofia Murillo initiated the moving of the tassels and the ceremony came to a close.
