Dunellen resident, Ellen Byrnes won the 2nd Annual Apple Pie Baking Contest with her lattice-topped pie.
The second annual apple pie baking contest was held at the Dunellen Downtown Management Organization’s HarvestFest this past Sunday, October 12, 2014.
Dunellen resident David Starace returned as the contest judge. Starace is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and has held the position of executive chef in many restaurants, country clubs, and hotels for over 25 years.
The pies were judged on appearance, taste, and texture. First place went to Ellen Byrnes for her lattice-topped apple pie. Second place went to last year’s champion Candy Harshaney and third place went to
Kristen O’Neil.
Slices of the winning pies and the other entries were given to festival-goers in exchange of a $1 donation.
