Board of Ed to hold Reorganization Meeting Tuesday

The Dunellen Board of Education will hold its re-organization meeting on January 6, 2015 at 7:30 pm in the Dunellen High School Library, 411 First Street, Dunellen. Among the items to be discussed are annual professional services contracts, textbook approval, and the approval for bank account maintenance. Recycling Schedule Announced for 2015

According to a press release posted on the Middlesex County Improvement Agency (MCIA) website, there is one big change with its recycling program. Although Dunellen residents will continue to expect recycling pickups every other Wednesday, there will be no printed schedule sent to households in 2015. In the press release, Ed Windas, MCIA division recycling manager cites the reason. “It really does fly in the face of our mission here. Dunellen Destroyers to play in state championships

Tomorrow, the Dunellen Destroyers will go against the Shabazz Bulldogs in the North 2 Group 1 football final. The game will take place at 1 p.m. at Kean University’s Kean Alumni Stadium. Admission is $5.50 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens. Free parking is available at the stadium. Fans planning to take advantage of another transportation option, NJ Transit’s Raritan Valley Line, should purchase train tickets in advance of the 10:30am or 11:35am departures, as there are only two ticket machines available. Halloween Parade 2014

The 65th Annual Halloween Parade was held on Sunday, October 26, 2014. This year’s Grand Marshall was Clem Santy who was Dunellen’s recreation director for 52 years. Judging took place in Washington Park. All participants received a ribbon from Mayor Bob Seader and pretzels from Santy. Local talent shines at Dunellen HarvestFest

Last Sunday’s HarvestFest hosted by the Dunellen Downtown Management Organization not only had vendor booths and activities for children. It also had original music and dance performances throughout the day. Gravity and Dunellen Skylight Theater Productions arranged the live entertainment. Dunellen resident’s musical to be performed at Arts Center

A medley from “Catladies the Musical” will performed at the Watchung Arts Center on October 18, as part of the variety show Comedy plus a Side Order of Thinking. Written by Dunellen resident Sarah Dubinsky, “Catladies the Musicial” debuted at Festival of the Offensive in New York City in April as an 80-minute full performance. For the upcoming show, it will be condensed into 20 minutes as part of the four-act evening. Dealing with adult themes, this event is not suitable for children. Witches Win Scarecrow Contest

The scarecrow contest returned to the 2nd Annual Dunellen HarvestFest on Sunday, October 12. This year there were eight entries including a monster, Webelos scout, and a bridesmaid. It was the witches, however, who were the day’s winners. Members of the Dunellen Downtown Management Organization which organized the event, chose the winners of the two main categories. Apple Pie Contest Winners Named

The second annual apple pie baking contest was held at the Dunellen Downtown Management Organization’s HarvestFest this past Sunday, October 12, 2014. Dunellen resident David Starace returned as the contest judge. Starace is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and has held the position of executive chef in many restaurants, country clubs, and hotels for over 25 years.
