On 1/31/2017 at 5:10 am – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal trespass, and theft of movable property after patrol was called to a vacant home on Whittier Avenue. Officers observed the suspect in the basement of the home actively removing sections of copper pipe. Additionally, he was found to have an outstanding warrant out of Dunellen. He was remanded to the Middlesex County Jail awaiting trial. On 1/31/2017 at 2:16 am – An Irvington resident was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. Continue Reading →

DMA to Host Teen Night

Dunellen Municipal Alliance (DMA) will hold its first Teen Night on Saturday, January 7, 2017, in the Dunellen Senior Center in Columbia Park beginning at 7 p.m.

This monthly event, which features prizes and fun activities, will be held the first Saturday of every month. According to the DMA, the purpose of the event is to have a safe place for teens to meet and spend time with their friends and to make new friends. Some of the programs will be led by local teenagers. The DMA is a community-based volunteer organization representing families, schools, and businesses along with faith-based and nonprofit organizations in Dunellen. Working together, its members implement a strategic plan to decrease misuse and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, especially as they relate to Dunellen’s youth. Continue Reading →

2017 Dunellen Recycling Information and Schedule

In 2017, Dunellen residents will have curbside recycling pickups every other Wednesday. These are co-mingled collections, since as of March 30, 2015, the Middlesex County Improvement Authority (MCIA) has transitioned to single-stream recycling collection. All curbside recyclable items, such as bottles, cans, paper and small flat cardboard can be mixed together in a single recycling container as they are kept separate from trash. Paper that is acceptable for collection includes: Newspaper, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, brown paper bags, nonmetallic wrapping paper, office records, computer paper, file folders, receipts, telephone books, softcover books, hardcover books, greeting cards, paperboard (such as non-waxcoated food and cereal boxes), pizza boxes, tissue boxes, shoe boxes and gift boxes. On 12/26/2016 at 8:35 pm – A Manville resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on North Washington Avenue. An investigation revealed that the driver had an active arrest warrant out of Union Township. He was transported to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and released after posting bail. On 12/21/2016 at 1:13 am – A Piscataway resident was placed under arrest for contempt Of court following a motor vehicle stop on Route 28. Lucky 7 Days Has Winning Ticket… Again

Lady Luck has stopped by 7 Days Food Store again. Back in April, one of the store’s customers won $328,462. This time around, one lucky ticket purchased from the North Avenue store matched all five numbers drawn winning the $82,768 Jersey Cash 5 jackpot from the Friday, Dec. 23 drawing. Bob Lanza Blues Band, On the Charts and Playing Dunellen

Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Joe Bonamassa, and Bob Lanza… All are currently on Billboard’s Blues Album charts. Only one regularly performs in Dunellen. Bob Lanza was born in Newark and has lived most of his life in Central Jersey, currently residing in Bridgewater. Project Stick Shock Brings Awareness to Underage Drinking

The Dunellen Municipal Alliance, in collaboration with the Middlesex County Coalition for Healthy Communities, sponsored “Project Sticker Shock”, a campaign designed to raise awareness about underage drinking and youth access to alcohol. Alcohol has been identified as the #1 drug of choice among youth, and accorded to surveys, is one of the easiest to obtain. Youth and adult leaders, along with teen members of Dunellen’s 1st Presbyterian Church “Cellar” group, attended a fun and engaging educational session about underage drinking and the risks associated with it on Friday evening, November 18. The next morning, they visited Dunellen Liquors and Maggie Murray’s Pub House to place bright green stickers on multipacks of beer, wine coolers and other alcoholic products that appeal to underage drinkers. Old Town Village To Hold Holiday Celebration

The Middlesex County Office of Culture and Heritage will host its “Seasonal Traditions” holiday program at East Jersey Old Town Village in Piscataway. These special events, all free of charge, will be held at the Village (1050 River Road, inside Johnson Park) from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, December 11. The event is being sponsored by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, The Township of Piscataway and the Piscataway Girl Scouts. Scheduled activities include:

County’s Skate Rink Opens for 14th Season

Middlesex County’s Roosevelt Park Family Ice Skating Rink opened for its 14th season. The rink is located at the Level Playing Fields Complex inside the County’s Roosevelt Park, which is adjacent to Menlo Park Mall in Edison. The rink is open Wednesday through Friday: 5:00 to 9:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday: Session 1: 12:30 to 2:30pm, Session 2: 3:00 to 5:00pm, Session 3: 6:30 to 8:30pm. The rink is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Per-session admission is $6 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and children 17 and under. Continue Reading →

Dunellen Police Report | November 2016

On 11/26/2016 at 9:04 pm – A Plainfield resident was placed under arrest and charged with receiving stolen property following a motor vehicle stop on Front Street. The driver was initially stopped for speeding when it was determined the vehicle had been reported stolen in Plainfield on 11/23/2016. He was transported to Dunellen Police Headquarters where he was processed and subsequently lodged in Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in lieu of $10,000 bail. On 11/26/2016 at 12:02 am – A North Plainfield resident was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on South Avenue. The driver was stopped for disregarding a traffic sign and was found to be intoxicated. Continue Reading →
