Dunellen Police Report | December 2019

On 12/31/2019 at 11:47 pm, a Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and contempt of court after patrol was called to Bound Brook Road for a dispute. He was found to have a warrant for his arrest out of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and physically resisted officers attempting to arrest him. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later remanded to the Somerset County Jail on their warrant. On 12/31/2019 at 8:57 am, a Piscataway was arrested for Contempt of Court following a motor vehicle stop on South Washington Avenue. School Bonding Approved by Dunellen Voters

The official results from the Middlesex County Board of Elections are in. The school bonding proposal was approved, 463 to 230. This will now allow the Dunellen School District to undertake the renovation and upgrades of Dunellen’s three schools, and expend and issue bonds to the amount not to exceed $23,800,000.00 in order to fund the project. Approval of the question also permits the Board of Education to use $5,827,996 of the $10,322,280 borrowing margin of the Borough of Dunellen. The State of New Jersey will provide debt service aid to cover 57.03% of the total project’s cost of $31.3million. Continue Reading →

Residents to vote on Dunellen School Facilities Enhancements Project

A special school election will be held on Tuesday, December 10 from 6am to 8pm at Lincoln Middle School and the Dunellen Firehouse. On the ballot is only one public question, whether or not to allow the Dunellen Board of Education (BOE) to undertake the renovation and upgrades of Dunellen’s three schools, and expend and issue bonds to the amount not to exceed $23,800,000.00 in order to fund the project. Approval of the question would permit using up $5,827,996 of the $10,322,280 borrowing margin of the Borough of Dunellen. If the proposal passes, the State of New Jersey would also provide debt service aid to cover 57.03% of the total project’s cost of $31.3million. Residents Encouraged to Apply for Town Committees

Current Dunellen Council President and Mayor-elect Jason Cilento recently posted a call for volunteers on his Facebook page. With updates made to the borough website, Dunellen residents now are able to apply to borough committees, commissions and boards through a volunteer application online form. A hard copy of the volunteer application can also be picked up at borough clerk’s office. To be considered for open positions, residents need to submit applications by Friday, December 20, 2019. Cilento, Rios, Sigmon win Dunellen election

The Republican Party swept the local race in Dunellen. It did not come as a surprise that current Dunellen council president Jason Cilento (R) won the mayoral position as he was running unopposed. Longtime mayor Robert Seader had chosen not to run for reelection. Cilento’s running mates, Trina Rios (R) and Daniel Cole Sigmon (R) won against Christina Haftmann (D) and Richard Pinder (D). Dunellen Police Report | October 2019

On 10/31/2019 at 9:22 pm, police responded to Madison Avenue for the report of a bicycle theft. The victim reported that an unknown person had removed the unsecured bicycle. On 10/30/2019 at 2:51 pm, police received a walk-in report of fraudulent checks. The victim, a Dunellen resident, reported being the victim of a scam and cashing fraudulent checks, as well as sending the scammers more money. Mayoral Candidate Jason F. Cilento’s Personal Statement

President Dwight D. Eisenhower said, “The middle of the road is all of the usable surface; the extremes, right and left, are in the gutters.”

I agree with President Eisenhower – and though our nation remains politically divided, my philosophies and values remain intact as a public servant who cares more about serving his constituents than he does partisan politics. I also believe that those in Washington D.C. could learn from a town like Dunellen. We as neighbors, friends and families have so much more in common than we do what separates us, and in my opinion, coming together to accomplish great things regardless of our differences is what uniquely defines us as a community. We care about making this borough a great place to live, work, create and raise a family, and that is what makes our square mile the “miracle mile!”

As a lifelong resident of Dunellen, I have dedicated my time to making Dunellen a better place and a town my fiancée Lindsay and I are proud to call home. I attended Dunellen’s public schools K-12, graduated from Kean University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in theatre studies, and, while working in risk management for a New York/New Jersey regional bank, completed this year my master’s degree in public administration from Rutgers University. Dunellen Police Report | September 2019

On 9/30/2019 at 2:25 am, a Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, terroristic threats, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault with a weapon, and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession, after police were called to an incident of reckless driving near the intersection of Madison and North Avenues. Upon arrival, police observed the man actively attempting to cause serious bodily injury with a weapon. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters and then remanded to the Middlesex County Jail. Also during this incident, another Dunellen resident was arrested for contempt of court as it was discovered he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Dunellen; his case was processed and he was released after posting bail. Dunellen Police Report | August 2019

On 8/31/2019 at 11:20 pm, a Plainfield resident was arrested for contempt of court after being observed by police walking on North Avenue and known to have warrants for his arrest. Warrants were located out of Dunellen, Piscataway, Plainfield, and Union. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later remanded to the Middlesex County Jail on Dunellen’s warrant. On 8/31/2019 at 5:26 pm, a Highland Park resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. Since was found to have a warrant for his arrest out of Somerville, he was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later turned over to Somerville Police Department on their warrant.
