Mayor Is Early Supporter of Guadagno

Dunellen mayor Robert Seader was among the first hundred New Jersey political figures to personally endorse New Jersey’s Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno as the Republican Party’s gubernatorial candidate. He was joined by two other Middlesex County mayors: Owen Henry of Old Bridge and Kennedy J. O’Brien of Sayreville. Guadagno’s representatives have since released two more lists of endorsements, adding two additional Middlesex County mayors: Matthew Anesh of South Plainfield and John Krenzel of South River. Of the six Republican-led municipalities in Middlesex County, only one other Republican mayor has not provided an endorsement, Cranbury’s David Cook. In addition to Seader, Guadagno has also received nods from Borough Councilman Jason Cilento and Dunellen GOP Municipal Chair Harry Buttito Jr., as well as many of Middlesex County’s GOP Organization Leaders including:

Two-Car Traffic Accident Last Friday

Two Middlesex County women were injured on Friday, February 24 when their vehicles collided during the evening’s rush hour. The accident occurred at 5:37 PM at the intersection of First Street and North Washington Avenue. According to Dunellen Police Sergeant Jeffrey Del Buono, a Dunellen resident driving a 2013 Hyundai, east on First Street failed to stop at the stop sign on First Street and North Washington Avenue. An Edison resident driving south on North Washington Avenue in a 2016 Subaru collided into the Hyundai. The Hyundai was thrust forward, hitting a telephone pole located near Washington Park’s event sign. Continue Reading →

Dunellen Police Report | February 2017

On 2/27/2017 at 11:45 pm – A Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and hindering apprehension following a motor vehicle stop. He gave a false name and was also found to have warrants out of Plainfield and the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office. After being processed at Dunellen Police Headquarters and issued a court date, he was then transferred to the custody of the Plainfield Police Department on their warrant. On 2/27/2017 at 2:42 pm – Patrol responded to the Dunellen High School for an activated fire alarm. After no fire was found, an investigation with school officials of the security footage was conducted. Continue Reading →

County Offers Introduction to Micro-irrigation Workshop at the EARTH Center

The Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County is holding a free new gardening seminar entitled, “An Introduction to Micro-irrigation.”

This workshop is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4 at the EARTH Center in Davidson’s Mill Pond Park, 42 Riva Ave., South Brunswick. Micro-irrigation allows for drip irrigation to be achieved with household water pressure. This form of irrigation has been used by farmers for decades and has been known to save time, reduce weeds, produce healthier plants and work especially well during droughts or dry seasons. The workshop will demonstrate the specialized attachments used for irrigation lines that are widely available in hardware and garden stores. Nearly $10K raised for American Heart Association

Faber School students and Dunellen school staff participated in “Jump Rope for Heart” and “Wear Red for Women” which are sponsored by the American Heart Association. According to gym teacher, Sue Gavin, “this is a great annual event that helps students realize how they can help others and make a change in the world. This event also allows students to learn about heart health and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”

The students participated in a variety of heart healthy exercises during gym classes and along with school staff, raised over $9,500 to help the American Heart Association fund research and educational initiatives. Continue Reading →

DMA to Host Teen Night

Dunellen Municipal Alliance (DMA) will hold its first Teen Night on Saturday, January 7, 2017, in the Dunellen Senior Center in Columbia Park beginning at 7 p.m.

This monthly event, which features prizes and fun activities, will be held the first Saturday of every month. According to the DMA, the purpose of the event is to have a safe place for teens to meet and spend time with their friends and to make new friends. Some of the programs will be led by local teenagers. The DMA is a community-based volunteer organization representing families, schools, and businesses along with faith-based and nonprofit organizations in Dunellen. Working together, its members implement a strategic plan to decrease misuse and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, especially as they relate to Dunellen’s youth. Continue Reading →

2017 Dunellen Recycling Information and Schedule

In 2017, Dunellen residents will have curbside recycling pickups every other Wednesday. These are co-mingled collections, since as of March 30, 2015, the Middlesex County Improvement Authority (MCIA) has transitioned to single-stream recycling collection. All curbside recyclable items, such as bottles, cans, paper and small flat cardboard can be mixed together in a single recycling container as they are kept separate from trash. Paper that is acceptable for collection includes: Newspaper, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, brown paper bags, nonmetallic wrapping paper, office records, computer paper, file folders, receipts, telephone books, softcover books, hardcover books, greeting cards, paperboard (such as non-waxcoated food and cereal boxes), pizza boxes, tissue boxes, shoe boxes and gift boxes. Dunellen Police Report | December 2016

On 12/26/2016 at 8:35 pm – A Manville resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on North Washington Avenue. An investigation revealed that the driver had an active arrest warrant out of Union Township. He was transported to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and released after posting bail. On 12/21/2016 at 1:13 am – A Piscataway resident was placed under arrest for contempt Of court following a motor vehicle stop on Route 28. Bob Lanza Blues Band, On the Charts and Playing Dunellen

Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Joe Bonamassa, and Bob Lanza… All are currently on Billboard’s Blues Album charts. Only one regularly performs in Dunellen. Bob Lanza was born in Newark and has lived most of his life in Central Jersey, currently residing in Bridgewater.
