Gardening Tools Workshop to be held May 20

“Rethinking Tools for Common Garden Chores”, a workshop by Middlesex County’s Master Gardeners is scheduled to be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 20 at the EARTH Center in Davidson’s Mill Pond Park, 42 Riva Ave. in South Brunswick. The current market for gardening tools and supplies is a wide one, with countless options to choose from. This workshop will help you narrow down those options by demonstrating of some of the garden tools and techniques that are preferred by our Master Gardeners. Spring Concert Held at Faber

On May 3, Faber Elementary School held a concert that showcased talents of the fourth and fifth grade chorus. The concert, which focused on the theme of friendship, It included a mix of current and more traditional songs: “Rise” by Katy Perry, “Danny Boy” arranged by John Ringo, “We Believe in Music” by Teresa Jennings, and “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars. The featured soloists were Mary-Lou Espana and Gwendolynn Dubrow. According to Michelle Gomes, Faber’s Vocal Music Director and coordinator of the concert, “All of the choir students did an amazing job. Their commitment to the weekly rehearsals and this concert shows how much they enjoy performing.”

Dunellen Police Report | April 2017

On 4/30/2017 at 3:27 am – A Somerville resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and four counts of contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop for driving without headlights on. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for testing and issued a court date. Active warrants were located from Bridgewater, Raritan, and Bound Brook. Arts & Culture Commission Holding Logo Contest

The Dunellen Arts & Culture Commission (DACC) is looking to establish its brand and is holding a logo competition. The contest is open to NJ residents and those attending school in New Jersey. The winner will receive a $100 Visa gift card and use of the logo in their portfolio. The deadline for Entries is noon on May 1, 2017, EST. The logo will be used online, in print, and on merchandise. Primary Ballot Drawing Moved to Monday April 17, 2017

According to the N.J.S.A. 19:23-24, the upcoming ballot drawing for the 2017 Primary Election is scheduled to fall on Good Friday, a legal holiday observed by State, County and Local Government Offices on April 14, 2017. In view of this, County Clerks’ Offices throughout the State, including the Middlesex County Clerk’s Office, will hold the ballot drawing for the 2017 Primary Election at 3 p.m. on the following business day — Monday, April 17 — in accordance with N.J.S.A. 19:11 that permits for such exceptions. The public may attend the drawing, however, no video recording will be permitted during the drawing of the ballot. 4-H Flea Market May 20

The Middlesex County 4-H Flea Market is scheduled for Saturday, May 20 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 4-H Youth Center, 645 Cranbury Rd., East Brunswick. The rain date will be May 21. A variety of vendors will sell new and used items, from crafts to collectibles. Refreshments and children’s entertainment also will be available. Middlesex County to Hold Program about WWI

The Middlesex County Office of Culture and Heritage (MCOCH) is sponsoring “New Jersey and the Great War,” a lecture on New Jersey’s role in World War I.

A part of the MCOCH’s event series honoring the WWI Centennial, this free program is scheduled for Sunday, April 9, at the Indian Queen Tavern in East Jersey Old Town Village, 1050 River Road in Piscataway. Two sessions will be held: 1 and 3 p.m.

The First World War, also known as the Great War, lasted from July 28, 1914, to November 11, 1918, with the United States officially entering the war on April 6, 1917. Joe Bilby, Assistant Curator of the New Jersey National Guard and Militia Museum in Sea Girt, will give an overview of the events leading up to the war, the war in Europe and the impact of the conflict on New Jersey and local communities. Middlesex County to Hold Talk on 1918 Influenza Pandemic

The Middlesex County Office of Culture and Heritage will be presenting the second installment in its series of events marking the centennial of World War I. This special presentation will focus on how New Jersey was impacted by an important event that coincided with the First World War, the 1918 Influenza Pandemic. This free program is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30 at East Jersey Old Town Village, 1050 River Road in Piscataway. This outbreak was one of the most severe of the 20th Century. Educator Jennifer Harmsen will examine the impact the pandemic left on New Jersey and the response by local communities. “As Americans, it is important for all of us to understand how historic events like WWI and the Influenza Pandemic still shape our lives today,” said Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald G. Dunellen Police Report | March 2017

On 3/25/2017 at 6:55 pm – Police responded to South Avenue for the report of an abandoned vehicle. Upon arrival, officers located an unoccupied Nissan Sentra with fresh damage. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed that it had been stolen out of Middlesex Borough earlier that morning. The car was turned over to Middlesex Police Department for processing before being returned to its rightful owner. Water Treatment To Include New Additive

An announcement went out to Dunellen residents this morning regarding a new additive to their water supply. The additive, a bitter, white crystalline purine, would not change the taste or appearance of the water. However, according to the U.S. Water Corporation (USWC) spokesperson Hu Sreedinthiz, “those drinking the tap water would feel more alert and energetic.” This is because the additive, a methylxanthine, increases basal metabolic rate in adults and stimulates certain portions of the autonomic nervous system. Sreedinthiz admitted the inclusion of the methylxanthine was a result of changing trends. Continue Reading →
