Middlesex County Disability Resources Fair on March 18

The Middlesex County Office of Aging and Disabled Services is holding its second annual resources fair for people with disabilities and their caregivers, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 at the Edison Senior Center, 2963 Woodbridge Avenue in Edison. “Disability Connections: An Information and Resource Fair” will offer information about resources and support services available to persons with disabilities in Middlesex County. Attendees will have the chance to visit with local social service agencies and businesses and to hear a special presentation from Carole Tonks, Director of the Alliance Center for Independence. Horticultural Therapy Workshop on March 18

In honor of National Horticultural Therapy Week is March 19-25, the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County is presenting a new workshop entitled, Horticultural Therapy in the Home. This seminar is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 18 at the EARTH Center, located in Davidson’s Mill Pond Park at 42 Riva Avenue, South Brunswick. Studying Master Gardener Althea McDonald LMHC, Psy.D., HT, will present an introduction to the art of Horticultural Therapy, followed by an immersive activity. Middlesex County Seeking WWI Memorabilia

The Middlesex County Office of Culture and Heritage is seeking objects to display in its upcoming exhibit at the Cornelius Low House commemorating the centennial of America’s entry in World War I.

The exhibit titled “Over There, Over Here: New Jersey During World War I” will focus on the stories of New Jerseyans and the effect the war had on those at home and fighting abroad. To add an even greater local connection to the exhibit, the Culture and Heritage Office is seeking objects for display. Objects may include military uniforms, medals, diaries, historic photographs, Red Cross or Salvation Army memorabilia, paper items, household objects and more. Mayor Is Early Supporter of Guadagno

Dunellen mayor Robert Seader was among the first hundred New Jersey political figures to personally endorse New Jersey’s Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno as the Republican Party’s gubernatorial candidate. He was joined by two other Middlesex County mayors: Owen Henry of Old Bridge and Kennedy J. O’Brien of Sayreville. Guadagno’s representatives have since released two more lists of endorsements, adding two additional Middlesex County mayors: Matthew Anesh of South Plainfield and John Krenzel of South River. Of the six Republican-led municipalities in Middlesex County, only one other Republican mayor has not provided an endorsement, Cranbury’s David Cook. In addition to Seader, Guadagno has also received nods from Borough Councilman Jason Cilento and Dunellen GOP Municipal Chair Harry Buttito Jr., as well as many of Middlesex County’s GOP Organization Leaders including:

County Offers Introduction to Micro-irrigation Workshop at the EARTH Center

The Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County is holding a free new gardening seminar entitled, “An Introduction to Micro-irrigation.”

This workshop is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4 at the EARTH Center in Davidson’s Mill Pond Park, 42 Riva Ave., South Brunswick. Micro-irrigation allows for drip irrigation to be achieved with household water pressure. This form of irrigation has been used by farmers for decades and has been known to save time, reduce weeds, produce healthier plants and work especially well during droughts or dry seasons. The workshop will demonstrate the specialized attachments used for irrigation lines that are widely available in hardware and garden stores. Old Town Village To Hold Holiday Celebration

Dunellen Holiday Home Decorating Contest

The Middlesex County Office of Culture and Heritage will host its “Seasonal Traditions” holiday program at East Jersey Old Town Village in Piscataway. These special events, all free of charge, will be held at the Village (1050 River Road, inside Johnson Park) from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, December 11. The event is being sponsored by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, The Township of Piscataway and the Piscataway Girl Scouts. Scheduled activities include:

County’s Skate Rink Opens for 14th Season

Middlesex County’s Roosevelt Park Family Ice Skating Rink opened for its 14th season. The rink is located at the Level Playing Fields Complex inside the County’s Roosevelt Park, which is adjacent to Menlo Park Mall in Edison. The rink is open Wednesday through Friday: 5:00 to 9:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday: Session 1: 12:30 to 2:30pm, Session 2: 3:00 to 5:00pm, Session 3: 6:30 to 8:30pm. The rink is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Per-session admission is $6 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and children 17 and under. Continue Reading →

Breakfast with Santa at 4-H Petting Zoo

On Saturday, December 3, Middlesex County 4-H is hosting “Breakfast with Santa and His Furry and Feathered Friends” at the Middlesex County 4-H Center, 645 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. Parents and children are invited to enjoy a pancake breakfast, meet Santa, and meet Santa’s furry and feathered friends at our petting zoo. There are two seatings for breakfast and activities: 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for children (age 9 & under), and includes a pancake breakfast, one picture with Santa per family, the petting zoo, and more. Open House for Sheriff’s Explorer Program, Jan 10

The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office will have an open house for Middlesex county residents age 14 – 20 and their parents to learn about the Sheriff’s Office upcoming Sheriff’s Explorer program. The Explorer leadership program will give young adults an opportunity to “explore” a possible career in law enforcement by working and training with members of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office. The program emphasizes leadership, academics, character development and self-discipline as well as encouragement to give back to the community.
