Temporary Water Treatment Change for Dunellen New Jersey American Water Customers

water alert drop

For a two-month period, New Jersey American Water will change the water treatment process at its Raritan-Millstone Water Treatment Plant in Bridgewater and at its Canal Road Water Treatment Plant in Somerset from chloramines (a combination of ammonia and chlorine) to free chlorine. The temporary treatment is done annually as routine maintenance to ensure high quality, reliable water service throughout New Jersey American Water’s distribution system. The change will begin on February 15, 2016 and last through the end of April. During this period, customers may notice an increase in the taste and smell of chlorine in their water. This is normal and will only be temporary until the system maintenance is complete. Continue Reading →

Top Winning Scratch-Off Ticket Bought at Local Store

This past December, 36 New Jersey Lottery instant games players claimed their games’ top prizes with combined annuity values of nearly $5.4 million. One of those players won the top prize on a $10,000 Pay Day scratch-off ticket purchased at Chamunda Enterprise Inc. (doing business as Kwik Mart), 221 North Avenue, Dunellen. Because retailers receive a bonus commission of 2.5% of the top prize, Kwik Mart was also a winner receiving a bonus of $250. PSE&G promises lower heating bills this winter

Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G), which supplies power and heat to much of Dunellen’s homes, announced Monday that it will provide bill credits this winter that will lower bills by about 30 percent during the months of December, January and February for a typical residential gas heating customer. Those customers will see a total bill credit of approximately $124 this winter. Including this winter’s bill credits announced today, since January 2009 annual bills for PSE&G’s typical residential gas heating customer will be 55 percent — or $916 — lower due to supply rate reductions. Halloween Parade – 2015

The 66th Annual Halloween Parade was held on Sunday, October 25. After over six decades, there have been a few changes: the parade is no longer held on Halloween night, silver dollars aren’t given out to participants, and this year instead of walking past through the downtown, the parade had a new path. As Grand Marshall, Faber School’s new principal Gary Lubisco led the parade from Lincoln Avenue to Front Street to Washington Avenue to Dunellen Avenue. He was escorted by the Dunellen High School band, Mayor Bob Seader, members of the Dunellen Recreation Commission, and numerous costume contest entrants. Police, fire, and rescue squad vehicles flanked the ends of the parade, protecting participants. Continue Reading →
