Borough Council Candidates – 2018

There are four candidates vying for two Dunellen Borough Council positions. Because current Council President Kenneth Baudendistel (R) is not seeking re-election, there is only one incumbent candidate, Jeremy Lowder (R), who was initially elected in 2015. The other three candidates, April Burke (D), David DeNapoli (R), and Stacy Narvesen (D) are running for the first time as council candidates. Dunellen Halloween Parade to Have New Route

The Dunellen Halloween Parade will have a different route this year. For decades, the parade snaked through downtown and ended in Washington Park. However, this year, the event which is in its seventieth year, will instead be starting in Washington Park with registration starting at noon on Sunday, October 28. In order to participate in the costume contest, residents must register prior to the start of the parade. At 1 p.m., revelers will march down Washington Avenue to Columbia Park where the parade will loop one time around the track. Continue Reading →

Dunellen Police Report | September 2018

On 9/30/2018 at 11:31 pm, a Dunellen resident and a Scotch Plains resident were arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on Prospect Avenue. The Dunellen resident was found to have a warrant out of Dunellen; the Scotch Plains resident, a warrant out of Plainfield. Both were brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing. The Dunellen resident was released after posting bail and the Scotch Plains resident was turned over to the Plainfield Police Department. Dunellen Police Report | July 2018

On 7/31/2018 at 11:20 pm, a Raritan resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following investigation into the report of an erratic driver on Bound Brook Road. She was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released to a sober family member. On 7/28/2018 at 1:40 pm, a Plainfield resident was arrested for contempt of court after being observed by patrol in Middlesex Borough and known to have a warrant for his arrest out of Dunellen. After receiving a new court date, custody was transferred to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office for charges in a separate matter. Track Phenom Sydney McLaughlin has gone pro

Sports Business Daily has reported that Dunellen’s most famous track and field athlete Sydney McLaughlin has signed with talent agency William Morris Endeavor (WME). The agency not only represents Hollywood actors and bestselling authors, but also represents professional athlete including McLaughlin’s idol, six-time Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix. After her appearance at the NCAA Championships in June, McLaughlin announced that she would be ending her college eligibility status after just one year, foregoing her final three years of eligibility at the University of Kentucky. She was scheduled to make her professional debut a few weeks later at the U.S. Track and Field Championships but did not, due to tightness in her hamstrings. McLaughlin, who turns 19 on Aug. Dunellen Police Report | June 2018

On 6/26/2018 at 7:02 pm – Police responded to Second Street for the report of a stolen firearm. The victim reported that an unknown person had stolen a firearm from the residence. This case remains open. On 6/26/2018 at 3:34 pm – Police responded to Prospect Avenue for the report of several backpack blowers which had been stolen from a landscaping company working in the area. Faber teachers Roth and Kipnis to retire

Two Faber Elementary School teachers, Chris Roth and Janice Kipnis will be retiring this Thursday. Faber principal Gary Lubisco, Jr. stated “these teachers have dedicated their lives to the students in Dunellen. They will be missed by all. We wish them the best in their retirement.”

Roth was a part of the Dunellen school system for 36 years, teaching special education and helped numerous students succeed in school and in life. According to Dunellen alumnus Jimmy Doyle, “I was never officially assigned Mrs. Roth as my teacher but spent most of my 5th and 6th grade recess in her classroom. Continue Reading →

On 5/30/2018 at 9:59 pm – A Plainfield resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on West Fourth Street. He was found to have a warrant for his arrest out of Dunellen, brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released after posting bail. On 5/27/2018 at 6:11 pm – A Piscataway resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on North Washington Avenue. She was found to have a warrant for her arrest out of Westfield, brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and released after posting bail. Dunellen Police Report | April 2018

On 4/28/2018 at 5:06 pm – A Scotch Plains resident was arrested and charged with burglary, theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia following investigation into an incident on 4/28/2018 at approximately 1:15 am. Surveillance footage captured the man burglarizing a motor vehicle almost immediately after release for a prior arrest (see item below). He was re-apprehended, brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing, and later remanded to the Middlesex County Jail. On 4/27/2018 at 11:58 pm – A Scotch Plains resident was arrested and charged with theft following investigation into an incident at a North Avenue business at approximately 9:15 pm.
