Dunellen Police Report | November 2019

On 11/30/2019 at approximately 1:30 am, police attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on the North Avenue. After stopping briefly, the operator of the vehicle, a black Dodge Charger, took off at a high rate of speed and led officers on a brief pursuit through Dunellen, Piscataway, and Plainfield. The pursuit was terminated due to the suspect’s extremely reckless operation of the vehicle. This case remains open. On 11/29/2019 at 3:22 pm, police received a walk-in report of criminal mischief. Classic Movie Screenings at East Jersey Old Town Village

Step back in time to the 1950s with free film screenings at the East Jersey Old Town Village. To celebrate the village’s extended hours throughout the summer (open until 8 pm on Thursdays in June, July and August), movies will be shown on July 18, August 8 and August 22. All showings begin at 5:30 pm at the Indian Queen Tavern. July 18 – “Singin’ in the Rain”: This renowned, high-energy musical stars Gene Kelly as a silent film actor who transitions to the ‘talkies’ with the help of his best friend (Donald O’Connor) and an ambitious young actress (Debbie Reynolds). Dunellen Halloween Parade to Have New Route

The Dunellen Halloween Parade will have a different route this year. For decades, the parade snaked through downtown and ended in Washington Park. However, this year, the event which is in its seventieth year, will instead be starting in Washington Park with registration starting at noon on Sunday, October 28. In order to participate in the costume contest, residents must register prior to the start of the parade. At 1 p.m., revelers will march down Washington Avenue to Columbia Park where the parade will loop one time around the track. Continue Reading →

Vintage Base Ball Club’s Inaugural Season Starts April 7

The Middlesex County Office of Arts and History is sponsoring its first vintage-style baseball team, the Liberty Base Ball Club. The team’s home games will be played at Liberty Field at East Jersey Old Town Village, located at 1050 River Rd., Piscataway. Admission to all games is free. Using rules, uniforms, customs and equipment dating back to the 1850s, the team carries on the tradition of the original Liberty Base Ball Club of New Brunswick which was organized in 1857 and, with a break for the Civil War, played until 1870. Lt. Gov. Guadagno to visit Dunellen

New Jersey’s first Lieutenant Governor, Kim Guadagno will be in Dunellen this Saturday. The Dunellen Republican Organization (DRO) is hosting a Meet & Greet with the gubernatorial candidate on May 13 from 2:30-4:30 PM at the Dunellen Arts Annex on 131 North Washington Avenue. The event, organized primarily by Dunellen Councilman Jason Cilento, is open to Dunellen residents. However, according to the organization’s Facebook page, seating is limited. Dunellen Police Report | January 2017

On 1/31/2017 at 5:10 am – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal trespass, and theft of movable property after patrol was called to a vacant home on Whittier Avenue. Officers observed the suspect in the basement of the home actively removing sections of copper pipe. Additionally, he was found to have an outstanding warrant out of Dunellen. He was remanded to the Middlesex County Jail awaiting trial. On 1/31/2017 at 2:16 am – An Irvington resident was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. Continue Reading →

Taylor McLaughlin Moves on to World U20 Finals

Taylor McLaughlin, Dunellen resident and University of Michigan rising sophomore, finished second in his semifinal heat at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships and will be moving on to the 400m hurdles finals in Bydgoszcz, Poland. His time of 50.25 was only bested overall by one from Jaheel Hyde of Jamaica (49.77) who ran in the same heat. Dunellen Police promotes Slow Down Initiative at Faber

On Thursday, April 21, Dunellen police officers gathered with children from John P. Faber Elementary School to expand the Middlesex County “Slow Down in Our Town” pedestrian safety program. This program was created by Freeholder James Polos in 2006 in an effort to raise awareness to pedestrian safety. In an effort to combat speeding in residential neighborhoods, “Slow Down in Our Town” enlists the use of a signs supplied by the Middlesex County Traffic Safety Program funded by New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety. Over the next few weeks, twenty signs will be placed in the areas surrounding Faber Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School and Washington Park. However, studies have shown that signs permanently erected on streets become so commonplace that motorists often ignore them. Continue Reading →

Disney’s New Animated Movie Zootopia Opens

Disney’s 55th animated feature film, Zootopia opens today in 3,827 theaters across the country. The 3D computer-animated action, buddy comedy film is about a rabbit police officer and a red fox con artist who partner up to solve a case in a city of bipedal animals. According to Darrin Butters, an animator at Walt Disney Animation Studios, the animation department relied on research from past anthropomorphic-based films such as Robin Hood, visits to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and even a trip to Kenya to capture various animals’ motions and facial expressions. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a rating of 99%, based on 98 reviews. It has already been released in some European countries under the name Zootropolis. Continue Reading →
