During a school-wide assembly on December 22, 2017, Faber Elementary School Principal Gary Lubisco, Jr. presented Laurie Mann with the Teacher of the Year award. Mann who has been teaching at Faber for twenty years, has been an active member of Dunellen Public Schools since her first day in the building, attending sporting events, graduations and other activities the students are involved in. According to Lubisco, “Mrs. Mann embodies what every teacher in Dunellen strives for. She is dedicated to the staff and students and cares for every member of the Dunellen Community. In December, Faber Elementary School students in Gina Viola’s 4th grade class donated pajamas to The Great Story Pajama Program. The Great Story Pajama Program, sponsored by Scholastic Book Clubs, gives new pajamas and story books to children living in shelters, group homes and foster care along with children in other programs that support at-risk youth. For every pair of pajamas that are donated, Scholastic donates a book. Twelve students, along with staff members Donna Maloupis and Viola, who participated donated 38 new pairs of pajamas. Dunellen Police Report | November 2017

On 11/27/2017 at 7:12 pm – A Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with theft of movable property and fraudulent credit card use following investigation into a motor vehicle burglary on Mountainview Terrace on 9/22/2017. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing before being remanded to the Middlesex County Jail. On 11/27/2017 at 4:38 pm – Police took a report of check fraud from a Dunellen resident. This incident remains open. On 11/27/2017 at 11:26 am – Police took a report of shoplifting from a North Avenue business which occurred sometime the previous day. Continue Reading →

On 12/29/2017 at 7:47 am – Police responded to Fairview Avenue for the report of criminal mischief. The victim reported that an unknown person had damaged the driver’s side mirror of their vehicle while parked overnight. Patrol had responded to this area at approximately 3:30 am on the report of a suspicious person but had been unable to locate anyone at that time. Dunellen Curbside Recycling Schedule – 2018

In 2018, Dunellen residents will have curbside recycling pickups every other Wednesday by the Middlesex County Improvement Authority (MCIA). All curbside recyclable items, such as bottles, cans, paper and small flat cardboard can be mixed together in a single recycling container as they are kept separate from trash. Paper that is acceptable for collection includes: Newspaper, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, brown paper bags, nonmetallic wrapping paper, office records, computer paper, file folders, receipts, telephone books, softcover books, hardcover books, greeting cards, paperboard (such as non-waxcoated food and cereal boxes), pizza boxes, tissue boxes, shoe boxes and gift boxes. Metal that is acceptable for collection includes: Tin, steel, aluminum and bimetal cans (such as soda, beer, canned pet food, soup and tuna cans). Glass that is acceptable for collection includes: Glass bottles and jars of all colors (such as juice, soda, beer and liquor bottles, mayonnaise and spaghetti sauce jars). Continue Reading →

“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign starts Dec. 8

Law enforcement officials from the Dunellen Police Department will be cracking down on drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs as part of the annual end of year “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” statewide campaign. Beginning December 8, 2017 and continuing through January 1, 2018, local and state law enforcement officials will conduct saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated. The national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” effort endeavors to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving through a combination of high-visibility enforcement and public education. “During the last five years New Jersey has experienced nearly 40,000 alcohol involved crashes resulting in more than 750 fatalities,” said Sgt. I would like to put an end to one party control of Middlesex County Board of Freeholders. For the past 21 years this one party control has resulted in continuous tax increases and wasteful spending. One good example is the Middlesex County Business administrator John Pulomena who is being paid $231,232.00 per year. He is the highest paid county administrator in the state. We need to end patronage payments to former freeholders like John Pulomena but it will only end if Republicans are elected to the Middlesex County Board of Freeholders. Continue Reading →
