Dunellen Police Report | August 2018

On 8/30/2018, a South Carolina resident was charged with burglary and theft following investigation into an incident on 5/5/2018 where several portable radios were stolen from the Dunellen Rescue Squad. He was issued a court appearance notice.

On 8/30/2018 at 11:49 am, a Dunellen resident was arrested for contempt of court after being observed by police on Bound Brook Road. Because he had active warrants out of Dunellen, Bound Brook, Plainfield, and North Plainfield as well as a no-bail warrant from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, he was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later remanded to the Middlesex County Jail on Dunellen’s warrant.

On 8/30/2018 at 7:43 am, police responded to Front Street for the report of criminal mischief. The victim reported that during the overnight hours, an unknown person had smashed the rear window to their parked vehicle.

On 8/27/2018 at 6:24 pm, police took a walk-in report of credit card theft. The victim reported a fraudulent charge of $413.28.

On 8/26/2018 at 3:35 pm, police responded to the NJ Transit tracks near the Dunellen Train Station for the report of a person struck by the train. They assisted in securing the scene until it could be turned over to NJ Transit Police for their investigation.

On 8/26/2018 at 11:37 am, police responded to a North Avenue business for the report of shoplifting. The suspect fled prior to police arrival. This case remains open.

On 8/23/2018 at 10:24 am, a Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with criminal sexual contact following the report that he had inappropriately grabbed a female walking nearby and then fled. He was subsequently located and brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing before being remanded to the Middlesex County Jail.

On 8/23/2018 at 12:22 am, police responded to Front Street for the report of criminal mischief. The victim reported that an unknown person had smashed all of the windows to her parked vehicle. This incident remains open.

On 8/22/2018 at 11:23 pm, a Roselle resident was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension following a motor vehicle stop on South Washington Avenue in which he was a passenger and not wearing a seatbelt. He provided police with a fictitious name to conceal warrants for his arrest out of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Fanwood, Plainfield, Roselle, and Westfield. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later turned over to the Union County Sheriff’s Office on their warrant.

On 8/22/2018 at 1:32 pm, a Dunellen resident was charged with shoplifting after investigation into an incident at a North Avenue business. He was observed on surveillance footage concealing items in his clothing prior to exiting the store without paying for them. He was issued a court appearance date.

On 8/21/2018, a Hamilton resident was arrested and charged with theft following investigation into an incident on 8/16/2018. The suspect, a Special Agent with the Division of Taxation, was captured on video surveillance stealing $306 from a North Washington Avenue business while in the performance of his duties. He was processed and released with a court appearance date.

On 8/20/2018 at 11:23 hrs, police responded to a North Avenue business for the report of criminal sexual contact. The victim reported unwanted advances from a male who had already left.

On 8/20/2018 at 5:47 pm, a Dunellen resident was charged with criminal mischief after operating a go-kart at Morecraft Park, causing an estimated $500 of damage to the grass. He was issued a court appearance date.

On 8/20/2018 at 7:38 am, police responded to Columbia Park for criminal mischief. Several fresh marks of graffiti were observed on the bleachers.

On 8/18/2018 at 12:56 am, a Green Brook resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. She was found to have an active warrant for her arrest out of Plainfield. She was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released after posting bail.

On 8/17/2018 at 11:18 pm, a Piscataway resident was arrested and charged with shoplifting (two counts) following investigation into two separate incidents of shoplifting earlier in the day at a North Avenue business. He was captured on surveillance footage concealing several items on his person and exiting the store. He was later observed by patrol nearby, wearing the same outfit as the previous incidents. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released with a court date.

On 8/16/2018 at 12:48 pm, police took a walk-in report of theft from a Dunellen resident. The victim reported the loss of $500.

On 8/15/2018 at 11:19 pm, a Piscataway resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit breath samples following a motor vehicle stop on South Washington Avenue. She was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing where she refused to provide samples. Additionally she was found to have a warrant for her arrest out of Bloomfield. She was later released to a sober friend after receiving new court dates.

On 8/14/2018 at 2:08 pm, police responded to a North Avenue business for the report of a shoplifting from earlier in the day. Surveillance footage was obtained and this case remains open.

On 8/13/2018 at 2:52 pm, police responded to Bound Brook Road for the report of a burglary to a residence. The victim reported the loss of approximately $6,000 worth of property. This case remains open.

On 8/13/2018 at 3:22 am, a Piscataway resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit breath samples following a motor vehicle stop on Oak Parkway. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters where he refused to provide samples. He was later released to a sober family member.

On 8/9/2018 at 2:15 pm, police took a walk-in report of credit card fraud from a Dunellen resident. The victim reported fraudulent charges of over $400. This case remains open.

On 8/7/2018 at 12:33 am, a Middlesex resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on Fourth Street. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released to a sober family member.

On 8/6/2018 at 12:42 am, a 17-year old male was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice after leading a foot pursuit with several officers from Green Brook who were assisting in the investigation of a suspicious person. He was released to a family member.

On 8/6/2018 at 12:08 am, a New York resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit breath samples after patrol was alerted to a tractor-trailer being operated recklessly. The driver was observed committing numerous traffic violations on North Washington Avenue. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released to a sober friend.

On 8/5/2018 at 10:52 pm, a Piscataway resident was charged with eluding (2nd degree) after patrol attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop for excessive speed on West Fourth Street. He took off and began to operate the vehicle in a highly reckless manner. A court appearance notice was mailed.

On 8/5/2018 at 1:22 am, a Piscataway resident was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana under 50g following a motor vehicle stop on New Market Road. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released with a court date.

On 8/4/2018 at 8:51 pm, a Dunellen resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on West Fourth Street. He was found to have warrants out of Dunellen, Bound Brook, and Plainfield. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later turned over to Plainfield Police on their warrant.

On 8/3/2018 at 9:24 pm, a Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension and falsely incriminating another following a motor vehicle stop on West Fourth Street in which he pretended to be someone else. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released with a court date.

On 8/2/2018 at 5:56 pm, police received a walk-in report of a bicycle theft from a Dunellen resident. The bicycle had been left unattended on North Avenue.

On 8/2/2018 at 12:07 am, a Piscataway resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on Front Street. Because he had warrants out of Dunellen, North Plainfield, and Plainfield, he was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later turned over to North Plainfield Police Department on their warrant.
