New York Penn Station West End Entrance (at Farley Post Office Building) is now open.
The summer commute NJ Transit users have been dreading is just around the corner.
To accommodate Amtrak’s track repairs in July and August at Penn Station New York, NJ Transit will be implementing service changes weekdays between Monday, July 10 and Friday, September 1.
Dunellen train and bus riders will not have to deal with many schedule changes. Raritan Valley Line trains will operate on regular weekday schedules with minor adjustments. And all Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line trains to Penn Station New York will operate on regular weekday schedules with minor time changes to and from New York City. Bus routes are not expected to have any schedule changes.
However, there may be additional passengers joining them on their commute. Morris & Essex trains on the Gladstone Branch will be diverted to and from Hoboken. Those who normally take that train line which includes stops in Basking Ridge, Lyons, and New Providence may opt to take the Raritan Valley train line or a NJ Transit bus such as the 59, 113, 114, and 117 routes.
Buses already replace trains on the Gladstone Branch between Gladstone and Summit in both directions to support work on the overhead wire system on weekends and during midday hours on weekdays in the summer.

There is a positive change that has already started this summer. The first phase of the Moynihan Station project at Penn Station New York is complete.
The west end entrances located at 31st Street and 33rd Street on 8th Avenue (at the Farley Post Office Building) across from the existing 8th Avenue entrance have finally opened. However, although the new concourse provides access to Tracks 5-21, customers should continue to use the existing entrances at 8th Avenue and 7th Avenue for access to Tracks 1-4 as they are not accessible from the west end. NJ Transit suggests using its mobile app or website to check track assignments.
