The Dunellen Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) held its annual Tricky Tray June 4 in the Faber Elementary School gym. The PTO’s largest fundraising event was attended by over 175 people. Approximately 300 baskets were created by PTO volunteers from donations from local merchants and residents. Prizes ranged from basketballs to a grand prize, an Xbox 1.
According to PTO President Pamela Vail: “The money raised helps all students in the school. The events planned with this money help students realize how important school is and about different careers available.” The monies raised go to various programs in Dunellen’s three schools. This school year’s PTO-sponsored special events included Holocaust survivor and author Johanna Reiss speaking to the seventh and eighth grade classes, and illustrator Lena Shiffman discussing her experiences in book publishing to the third grade classes. Funds raised also go towards five $1,000 scholarships given to selected high school seniors at their graduation ceremony.
