Dunellen Police Report | December 2017

On 12/29/2017 at 7:47 am – Police responded to Fairview Avenue for the report of criminal mischief. The victim reported that an unknown person had damaged the driver’s side mirror of their vehicle while parked overnight. Patrol had responded to this area at approximately 3:30 am on the report of a suspicious person but had been unable to locate anyone at that time.

On 12/27/2017 at 4:01 pm – Police received a walk-in report from a resident of Whittier Avenue for credit card fraud. This case remains open.

On 12/23/2017 at 9:15 pm – Police responded to Second Street for the report of a residential burglary which occurred sometime in the past.

On 12/22/2017 at 10:30 am – Police took a walk-in report of criminal mischief to a vehicle parked on the property of a Madison Avenue resident. The victim reported that he discovered his tires slashed on 12/19. This case is being forwarded to the Detective Bureau for inclusion into the other burglaries and criminal mischief cases.

On 12/22/2017 at 10:09 am – Police took a walk-in report of criminal mischief to the Dunellen Fire Department building on South Madison Avenue. Officials reported that one of the first floor window screens had been slashed. It is believed this incident took place on 12/19 along with the rash of burglaries and criminal mischief and has been forwarded to the Detective Bureau.

On 12/21/2017 at 4:26 pm – A Piscataway resident was arrested and charged with attempted burglary (three counts), burglary (six counts), criminal mischief (twelve counts), theft (five counts), unlawful possession of a weapon, and contempt of court (three counts). He was captured on surveillance footage committing the recent rash of motor vehicle burglaries, attempted home burglaries, and instances of criminal mischief. Additionally he had a no-bail warrant from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and several warrants out of Plainfield. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later remanded to the Middlesex County Jail on charges from his crime spree in Dunellen.

On 12/21/2017 at 11:18 am – Police responded to High Street for the report of an attempted home burglary. It was reported that a male attempted to gain access to the residence through the back of the house unsuccessfully. He fled prior to police arrival but an accurate description was obtained.

On 12/20/2017 at 5:21 pm – Police responded to Walnut Street for the report of criminal mischief. The victim reported slashed tires to their parked vehicle.

On 12/19/2017 at 6:07 pm – Police responded to South Madison Avenue for the report of criminal mischief and burglary to a motor vehicle. The victim reported that an unknown person had accessed their unlocked vehicle, stolen loose change and caused damage.

On 12/19/2017 at 5:55 pm – Police responded to Lehigh Street for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. An unknown person had accessed the victim’s unlocked vehicle and rummaged through the contents.

On 12/19/2017 at 4:01 pm – Police responded to South Madison Avenue for the report of criminal mischief. An unknown person had accessed the victim’s unlocked vehicle and caused damage.

On 12/19/2017 at 3:27 pm – Police responded to Madison Avenue for the report of criminal mischief. The victim reported that a tire on their vehicle had been slashed.

On 12/19/2017 at 12:12 pm – Police responded to Fairview Avenue for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. The victim reported that an unknown person had accessed their unlocked vehicle and stolen several items.

On 12/19/2017 at 10:40 am – Police responded to South Madison Avenue for the report of burglary to a garage. An unknown person had accessed the garage and stolen several items.

On 12/19/2017 at 10:38 am – A Piscataway resident was arrested for unlawful possession of a weapon after police responded to Prospect Avenue on the report of a suspicious person. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released with a court date.

On 12/19/2017 at 9:42 am – Police responded to South Madison Avenue for the report of criminal mischief. An unknown person caused several scratches on the door and hood of the victim’s parked vehicle.

On 12/19/2017 at 9:19 am – Police responded to High Street for the report of criminal mischief. The victim reported that an unknown person had smashed out the windows to their parked vehicle and stolen several items.

On 12/19/2017 at 9:18 am – Police responded to Lehigh Street for the report of criminal mischief and burglary to a motor vehicle. An unknown person had accessed the unlocked vehicle, stolen change and caused damage.

On 12/19/2017 at 8:35 am – Police responded to South Madison Avenue for the report of criminal mischief. Patrol observed a vehicle with a smashed windshield caused by being struck with a large rock several times.

On 12/19/2017 at 7:43 am – Police responded to South Madison Avenue for the report of slashed tires to two vehicles.

On  12/19/2017 at 7:33 am – Police responded to Walnut Street for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. The victim reported that an unknown person had accessed their vehicle and stolen loose change as well as several Christmas presents.

On 12/19/2017 at 7:28 am – Police responded to South Madison Avenue for the report of criminal mischief and burglary to a motor vehicle. The victim reported an unknown person had entered their unlocked vehicle, stolen several items, and then proceeded to cause damage to the vehicle and slash a window screen on the residence.

On 12/19/2017 at 7:10 am – Police responded to South Madison Avenue for the report of criminal mischief. The victim reported two window screens on their home had been slashed.

On 12/19/2017 at 5:32 am – Police responded to Walnut Street for the report of a man attempting to enter parked cars. This investigation remains open.

On 12/18/2017 at 11:49 pm – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana under 50g following a motor vehicle stop on Bound Brook Road. Additionally, he was found to have a warrant for his arrest out of Plainfield. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarter for processing and later turned over to Plainfield Police Department on their warrant.

On 12/17/2017 at 6:10 pm – Police responded to Center Street for the report of the theft of outdoor lighting.

On 12/13/2017 at 11:52 pm – A Piscataway resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. Because he had several warrants for his arrest from Plainfield and Bridgewater, he was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released after posting bail.

On 12/12/2017 at 11:24 pm – A North Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension after providing patrol with a fictitious name and date of birth during a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. She was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released with a court date.

On 12/11/2017 at 1:15 am – A Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with criminal trespass following patrol response to the report of an intoxicated intruder on Walnut Street. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released with a court date.

On 12/10/2017 at 8:00 pm – Police took a walk-in report of a cell phone theft from a North Avenue business’ customer. This case remains open.  

On 12/10/2017 at 9:01 pm – A Piscataway resident was arrested and charged with theft and unlawful taking of a means of conveyance following investigation into an incident earlier in the day at a North Avenue business. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later remanded to the Middlesex County Jail.

On 12/10/2017 at 1:50 am – A Piscataway resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit breath samples following a motor vehicle stop on South Washington Avenue. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and was later released to a sober friend.

On 12/9/2017 at 2:38 am – A North Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana under 50g and possession of cocaine following investigation into a suspicious incident at a North Avenue business. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released with a court date.

On 12/9/2017 at 12:08 am – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with possession of under 50g of marijuana following a motor vehicle stop on South Washington Avenue. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released with a court date.

On 12/9/2017 at 12:05 am – A South Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after being found asleep behind the wheel in the roadway on North Washington Avenue. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processed and later transferred to Somerset Medical Center for evaluation.

On 12/6/2017 at 11:48 pm – Police responded to a North Avenue business for the report of a shoplifting in progress. Upon the arrival of police, the shoplifter fled the area on foot and was unable to be apprehended.

On 12/6/2017 at 8:36 am – Police received a walk-in report of credit card fraud from an Oak Parkway resident. This case remains open.

On 12/4/2017 at 9:42 pm – A Dunellen resident was arrested for contempt of court after being stopped by patrol conducting a check of Columbia Park after closing. He was found in the park after closing and additionally found to have an active warrant for his arrest out of Bound Brook. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released after receiving a new court date.

On 12/4/2017 at 1:06 pm – A Philadelphia resident was taken into custody and extradited from a Pennsylvania jail on an outstanding warrant of aggravated assault and aggravated assault with injury related to an incident on 2/24/2017. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing before being remanded to the Middlesex County Jail.

On 12/2/2017 at 7:34 pm – Police responded to Madison Avenue for the report of a burglary to a residence. It was determined that an unknown person(s) had accessed the unoccupied home by breaking a rear window. This case has been forwarded to the Detective Bureau.

On 12/1/2017 at 5:30 pm – Police took a walk-in report of terroristic threats from a Front Street resident. The incident was documented and the complainant was advised of the procedure for signing a complaint.

On 12/1/2017 at 10:19 am – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a hit and run motor vehicle accident on South Washington Avenue. She was transported to RWJ Hospital where samples were provided before being released to hospital staff.
