Dunellen Police Report | October 2017

On 10/31/2017 at 11:58 am – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after actively interfering with officers investigating an incident on Center Street. She was processed and later turned over to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office on a separate matter.

On 10/29/2017 at 3:29 am – A Plainfield resident was arrested for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on North Washington Avenue for driving completely on the wrong side of the road. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released to a sober family member.

On 10/28/2017 at 11:30 pm – A Plainfield resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop in the parking lot of a North Avenue business. Since he had warrants out of North Plainfield and Kenilworth, he was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and released after posting bail.

On 10/28/2017 at 7:00 pm – Police responded to Grove Street for the report of the theft of a package.

On 10/26/2017 at 7:13 pm – Police responded to the Dunellen Train Station for the report of criminal mischief. An unknown person had damaged the victim’s bicycle lock by placing glue inside of the mechanism.

On 10/25/2017 at 12:15 am – A Newark resident was arrested and charged with burglary, theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, and hindering apprehension after police were called to Kline Place for the report of a group of individuals on bicycles actively burglarizing motor vehicles. Three juvenile males from Plainfield were also arrested and charged with burglary and theft. One of the juveniles was additionally changed with possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. A fourth juvenile suspect fled the area upon police arrival and charges are pending their identification. Dunellen Police were assisted by officers from Piscataway and Green Brook in the arrests. This case has been forwarded to the Detective Bureau as statements and evidence link the above defendants to numerous car burglaries over the past month in Dunellen and surrounding towns and charges for those will be filed pending the outcome of the investigation. The adult suspect was processed at Dunellen Police Headquarters and later transferred to the Middlesex County Jail. The three juveniles were released to family members.

On 10/23/2017 at 8:04 pm – Police responded to Dunellen Avenue for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. An unknown person had accessed the vehicle but did not leave with any proceeds.

On 10/23/2017 at 7:50 pm – Police responded to Lincoln Avenue for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. An unknown person had accessed the vehicle and stolen a pair of sunglasses. Fingerprints were retrieved from the scene.

On 10/23/2017 at 6:57 pm – Police responded to Second Street for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. An unknown person had accessed the vehicle and rummaged the contents but did not leave with any proceeds.

On 10/23/2017 at 4:30 pm – Police responded to Third Street for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. An unknown person had accessed the vehicle and stolen loose change.

On 10/23/2017 at 11:04 am – Police responded to Third Street for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. An unknown person had accessed the vehicle removing cash and a debit card. There was also damage to the trunk of the vehicle.

On 10/23/2017 at 10:34 am – Police received a walk-in report of theft from a Prospect Avenue resident. The victim reported the theft of a game console and controllers. This investigation is pending identification of a suspect for which a description was provided.

On 10/23/2017 at 9:34 am – Police received a walk-in report of a stolen bicycle from North Avenue, taken sometime during the previous night.

On 10/23/2017 at 7:39 am – Police responded to First Street for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. An unknown person had accessed the vehicle through a partially open window, stealing two pairs of headphones. Fingerprints were retrieved from the scene.

On 10/23/2017 at 7:33 am – Police responded to North Washington Avenue for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. An unknown person had accessed the vehicle and stolen loose change.

On 10/23/2017 at 7:22 am – Police responded to Jackson Avenue for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. An unknown person had accessed the vehicle, stealing a wallet containing several credit cards.

On 10/23/2017 at 5:43 am – Police responded to Dunellen Avenue for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. An unknown person had accessed the vehicle but did not remove anything.

On 10/21/2017 at 9:49 pm – Police responded to a Halloween event at Columbia Park for the report of six juvenile males that had jumped a fence to enter and had assaulted staff working the event. The juveniles fled prior to police arrival.

On 10/20/2017 at 9:36 am and 5:15 pm – Police took walk-in reports of harassment.

On 10/19/2017 at 11:29 am – A Dunellen resident was arrested for contempt of court after a warrant was served at his home at the request of the Union County Sheriff’s Office. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later turned over to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

On 10/19/2017 at 7:04 am – Police responded to First Street for the report of a burglary to a vehicle and residence. Sometime overnight, an unknown person had accessed the unlocked vehicle, stealing several items as well as the garage door opener, using that to access the occupied home while the victim was sleeping and removing several items of value from the home including a laptop. This case has been forwarded to the Detective Bureau.

On 10/18/2017 at 10:45 pm – Police responded to Columbia Street for the report of an unresponsive male. Patrol located the male along with drug paraphernalia exhibiting signs of an opioid overdose. Narcan Naloxone was administered along with CPR and oxygen. Eventually, the patient regained consciousness and was transported to the hospital.

On 10/18/2017 at 7:22 pm – Police responded to a North Washington Avenue business for the report of a cell phone theft. During the investigation, the cell phone was located at a nearby business. The next day, a Dunellen resident was processed and charged with theft in this incident. He was released after processing.

On 10/13/2017 at 1:09 pm – Police responded to a North Avenue business for the report of a shoplifter. He was last seen walking towards Plainfield prior to police arrival. This incident remains open.

On 10/12/2017 at 7:59 am – A Piscataway resident was arrested for contempt of court following investigation into a suspicious person on Prospect Avenue. Since he was found to have a no-bail warrant out of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, he was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later turned over to the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office.

On 10/10/2017 at 2:55 pm – A Piscataway resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop for speeding on Madison Avenue. The investigation revealed the driver had warrants out of Dunellen and Piscataway. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and released after posting bail.

On 10/9/2017 at 6:28 am – Police responded to the Dunellen High School for the report of a burglary. The investigation revealed that sometime over the weekend, an unknown actor had forced their way into the school and stolen several cases of refreshments. Furtherance of this case is pending review of surveillance footage.

On 10/7/2017 at 9:48 am – A South Bound Brook resident was arrested and charged with burglary and criminal mischief following response to an incident on North Washington Avenue. Additionally, he was found to have warrants out of Piscataway and Morristown. After processing, he was turned over to Morristown Police Department on their warrant.

On 10/6/2017 at 11:33 pm – Police took a walk-in report from a Dunellen resident of theft by deception. The victim reported receiving a phone call from an individual claiming to be the IRS and demanding payment, payable in gift cards. The victim then sent the scammer the gift cards prior to reporting the incident.

On 10/6/2017 at 4:49 pm – Police responded to a Bound Brook Road business for the report of criminal mischief. The investigation found that an unknown person slashed multiple tires of a vehicle that had been parked at that location.

On 10/6/2017 at 5:23 am – Police responded to Plainfield for the report of a robbery and aggravated assault which took place in Dunellen near the intersection of North Washington Avenue and Front Street. The case was forwarded to the Detective Bureau.

On 10/4/2017 at 8:45 pm – Police responded to Walnut Street for the report of criminal mischief. Patrol observed broken eggs, broken glass, and other damage to the rear yard.

On 10/4/2017 at 7:27 pm – A Somerville resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on Bound Brook Road for an equipment violation. She was found to have an active warrant for her arrest out of Plainfield. She was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later turned over to Plainfield Police.

On 10/4/2017 – A juvenile male was charged with 2nd degree eluding and 3rd degree receiving stolen property following investigation into the pursuit of a stolen motor vehicle on 6/28/2017.

On 10/2/2017 at 4:00 pm – Police took a walk-in report of credit card fraud. The victim reported several unauthorized charges on their account. This case has been forwarded to the Detective Bureau.

On 10/2/2017 at 6:13 am – Police responded to Lincoln Middle School for several acts of vandalism to the school property including broken windows and a broken door. This case remains open pending review of security footage.
