Dunellen Police Report | July 2017

On 7/31/2017 at 9:05 pm – A Pennsylvania resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing where he experienced a medical issue and was transported to RWJ New Brunswick by EMS. A blood sample was obtained and he was turned over to hospital staff.

On 7/30/2017 at 1:21 am – A Piscataway resident was arrested for contempt of court following investigation into several individuals seen entering unlocked vehicles. He was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Wall Township. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later issued a new court date. The motor vehicle burglaries remain under investigation by the Detective Bureau.

On 7/29/2017 at 12:35 am – A North Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and was later released to a sober friend.

On 7/26/2017 at 11:25 pm – Police observed two motorcycles with no registration plates operating recklessly on North Avenue. A brief motor vehicle pursuit was initiated but called off before either rider could be identified.

On 7/26/2017 at 8:03 pm – Two Plainfield residents were arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue for a fictitious temporary registration. One was found to have several warrants out of Plainfield while the other had a warrant out of the Union County Sheriff’s Office. Both were brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing. The one with warrants out of Plainfield was released after posting bail while the other was turned over to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

On 7/25/2017 at 4:43 pm – Police responded to the report of a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of New Market and Walnut. Patrol observed that one of the vehicles, which appeared to have struck a parked car, had no driver, steering wheel, center console, or engine. This vehicle was identified as one which had been recently stolen from Elizabeth. The vehicle was impounded and turned over to the Elizabeth Police Department.

On 7/22/2017 at 3:43 pm, patrol received a walk-in report of theft. A Dunellen resident reported several fraudulent charges to their checking account.

On 7/21/2017 at 1:10 am – A Plainfield resident was arrested for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on Walnut Street. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released to a sober family member.

On 7/21/2017 at 8:22 pm – Police received a walk-in report at Dunellen Police Headquarters from a Dunellen resident reporting fraud. The victim reported that he had sent money to an unknown person in exchange for a used cell-phone. This incident has been forwarded to the Detective Bureau for follow-up.

On 7/21/2017 at 5:23 pm – Police responded to North Avenue for the report of the theft of two packages which were taken from the front step of the residence.

On 7/20/2017 at 6:21 pm – Police responded to a North Avenue business for the report of a burglary. The business owner arrived to find all items from the store missing. Investigation revealed the items nearby and no charges were filed.

On 7/20/2017 at 2:57 pm – Police responded to a North Avenue business for the report of shoplifting. A description was given to officers and the area was thoroughly checked but the individuals responsible were unable to be located.

On 7/19/2017 at 2:15 am – Police observed a parked vehicle on First Street which had been reported stolen in Green Brook on 7/11/2017. The vehicle was secured and turned over to Green Brook Police Department.

On 7/19/2017 at 5:03 pm – Police responded to Grove Street for the report of the theft of a package containing a new cell phone. Following a thorough investigation, a Dunellen resident was mailed a criminal summons for theft by deception in this matter.

On 7/18/2017 at 11:06 pm – A Plainfield resident was arrested for contempt of court and charged with hindering apprehension after providing a false name to officers during a traffic stop on Lincoln Avenue. He was found to have two warrants out of Plainfield. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and released after posting bail.

On 7/18/2017 at 7:13 pm – Police responded to a North Avenue business for the report of a bicycle theft. A Plainfield resident reported that while he was inside the establishment, an unknown person(s) removed the victim’s bicycle from the front of the store. Security footage was reviewed and two local juveniles were identified. The juveniles were contacted and the property was returned to the satisfaction of the victim who declined to sign a criminal complaint.

On 7/16/2017 at 1:29 am – Police received a walk-in report of a stolen license plate. A resident of Front Street reported that an unknown person had stolen their front license plate during the overnight hours. The plate was entered as stolen and the victim was advised to secure new registration plates from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

On 7/15/2017 at 12:42 pm – Police responded to Dunellen Avenue for a report of criminal mischief. The resident reported that sometime during the overnight hours an unknown person had removed several solar lights and scattered garbage throughout their lawn.

On 7/15//2017 at 2:09 am – A Plainfield resident was arrested and charged with theft of movable property and attempted burglary following an investigation into a burglary from a motor vehicle on Second Street on 6/26/2017. He was apprehended after fleeing from Middlesex Borough Police in a stolen vehicle and crashing on Railroad Avenue in Dunellen. He was transported to the Middlesex County Jail.

On 7/13/2017 at 12:03 pm – Police received a walk-in report of attempted fraud. A resident of Second Street reported a scam in-progress. It was determined that no pecuniary loss had occurred and the victim was advised to cease contact.

On 7/11/2017 – A Roselle Park resident was arrested and charged with harassment, providing alcohol to a minor, unlawful possession of a weapon, and certain persons not to possess weapons following an investigation into a report of inappropriate touching on North Avenue on 06/07/17. He was transported to Middlesex County Jail on a warrant for the above charges.

On 7/11/2017 at 3:30 am – A Roselle Park resident was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and burglary following an incident on Prospect Avenue. He was transported to the Middlesex County Jail on a warrant for the above charges.

On 7/10/2017 at 11:11 am – Police received a walk-in report of theft. A resident of Prospect Avenue reported that person(s) unknown removed several items of his clothing which were drying outside.

On 7/9/2017 at 1:21 am – Police observed a motorcycle on North Avenue recklessly operating on the sidewalk and narrowly avoiding pedestrians. A pursuit was initiated but ultimately terminated before the subject could be identified. This incident remains open.

On 7/7/2017 at 5:29 pm – A Newark resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. An investigation revealed a warrant in his name out of Newark. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and released after being issued a new court date.

On 7/7/2017 at 3:48 am – Police responded to Madison Avenue for the report of a burglary. The caller stated that they heard a loud noise and patrol observed a gutter which had been ripped down as if someone attempted to climb it.

On 7/4/2017 at 2:46 pm – A Parlin resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. An investigation revealed he had an active warrant out of Woodbridge. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and released after posting bail.

On 7/1/2017 at 8:05 am – Police on Dunellen Avenue observed a parked vehicle whose driver’s side window had been smashed out. An investigation revealed the cause as a burglary to a motor vehicle.

On 7/1/2017 at 5:40 am – Police responded to Dunellen Avenue for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle in progress. Police searched the area and observed an individual matching the description given by the victim, but the subject fled on foot into Plainfield before police could approach him.
