The Dunellen Police Department issued a public safety announcement on July 1, 2017, in response to the number of motor vehicle thefts and burglaries mentoned in this report.
On 6/28/2017 at 3:36 am – A Plainfield resident and a Pennsylvania resident were arrested for contempt of court after police responded to a call regarding a pair of disorderly persons at a North Avenue business. The Plainfield resident was found to have warrants out of Plainfield and South Plainfield while the Pennsylvania resident had warrants out of Spotswood and Atlantic City. The Plainfield resident was turned over to Plainfield Police Department on their warrant while the Pennsylvania resident posted bail and was released after receiving new court dates.
On 6/27/2017 at 1:31 am – Police responded along with the Dunellen Fire Department to Grove Street for a dumpster fire. Due to the close proximity to the previous fire, this incident is considered suspicious and remains under investigation.
On 6/27/2017 at 12:38 am – Police responded along with the Dunellen Fire Department to Walnut Street for a leaf bag which had been set on fire. Witnesses observed two males light the fire and flee towards Plainfield. This case remains under investigation.
On 6/26/2017 at 9:13 am – Police responded to Second Street for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. The victim reported that sometime during the overnight hours an unknown person had accessed their unlocked vehicle and rummaged through the contents, removing a set of keys from the vehicle. Security footage was obtained and a second nearby vehicle was found to have been unlawfully entered as well.
On 6/23/2017 at 7:14 pm – Police responded to Fairview Avenue for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. The victim reported that an unknown person had accessed her unlocked vehicle and rummaged through the contents but did not remove any items of value.
On 6/23/2017 at 11:59 am – Detectives responded to Grove Street for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. The victim reported that an unknown person had accessed her unlocked vehicle and removed several items of value.
On 6/23/2017 at 7:38 am – Police responded to Fairview Avenue for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. The victim reported that sometime during the overnight hours, an unknown person had accessed her unlocked vehicle and rummaged through the contents. No items of value were removed.
On 6/23/2017 at 7:00 am – Police responded to Whittier Avenue for the report of a stolen motor vehicle. The victim reported that their vehicle had been stolen during the night.
On 6/23/2017 at 6:50 am – Police responded to Fairview Avenue for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. The victim reported that an unknown person had accessed her vehicle during the overnight hours and removed several items of value.
On 6/23/2017 at 5:26 am – Police responded to Grove Street for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. The victim reported that sometime during the overnight hours an unknown person had accessed their unlocked vehicle and removed several items of value.
On 6/22/2017 at 2:42 pm – Police responded to Second Street for the report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. The victim reported that sometime during the overnight hours an unknown person had accessed their unlocked vehicle and rummaged through but did not remove any items.
On 6/22/2017 at 6:40 am – Police responded to Second Street for the report of a stolen vehicle. The victim reported that her vehicle, which was left unlocked with the keys in the vehicle had been removed sometime during the overnight hours.
On 6/19/2017 at 11:23 pm – Two Dunellen residents were arrested following investigation into an incident earlier in the evening. Both were charged with simple assault. One of the suspects was found to have an outstanding no-bail warrant from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and was transported to the Middlesex County Jail. The other suspect was released with a court date.
On 6/19/2017 at 3:19 pm – Police took a walk-in report of damage to a bicycle lock while the property was secured at the Dunellen Train Station.
On 6/17/2017 at 3:49 am – A North Plainfield resident was arrested for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. She was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released to a sober family member.
On 6/15/2017 at 11:21 pm – A Georgia resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on Bound Brook Road. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released to a sober friend.
On 6/15/2017 at 10:53 pm – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana under 50g following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released with a court date.
On 6/15/2017 at 12:49 am – A Plainfield resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on Prospect Avenue. He was found to have an outstanding warrant out of Westfield. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later turned over to Westfield Police Department on their warrant.
On 6/14/2017 at 11:23 pm – A Plainfield resident was arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on South Washington Avenue in which he was a passenger. Investigation revealed that he had an active warrant for his arrest out of Union Township. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later turned over to the Union Township Police Department on their warrant.
On 6/14/2017 at 6:04 pm – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with driving while suspended for DWI following investigation into an incident on 5/7/2017. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released with a court date.
On 6/14/2017 at 4:35 pm – Police took a walk-in report of fraud. The victim reported several unauthorized charges on their bank account.
On 6/12/2017 at 11:47 am – Police responded to a Madison Avenue residence for the report of a burglary to a vehicle. The victim stated that their vehicle had been left unlocked the previous evening and that an unknown person(s) had stolen two laptops.
On 6/11/2017 at 11:15 pm – A Dunellen resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit breath samples following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing where he refused to provide a breath sample. He was later released to a sober family member.
On 6/10/2017 at 1:52 pm – Police responded to North Avenue for the report of a bicycle theft. The victim stated that sometime between then and the previous day an unknown person(s) had removed the bicycle which was stored in the common area basement of the apartment building.
On 6/10/2017 at 5:17 am – Police responded to a North Avenue business for the report of criminal mischief. A report of criminal mischief had been reported at the same establishment three days prior. Once again, the flowerpots outside of the store had been damaged.
On 6/7/2017 at 6:10 am – A Dunellen resident was arrested for contempt of court following a pedestrian stop on North Avenue as officers were investigating a separate incident. He was found to have warrants for his arrest out of Spotswood and Edison. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later turned over to Spotswood Police Department on their warrant.
On 6/7/2017 at 4:22 am – Police responded to a North Avenue business for the report of criminal mischief. An investigation revealed that several large flowerpots in front of the business had been destroyed overnight. Security footage was obtained and this investigation is ongoing.
On 6/6/2017 at 10:09 pm – Police responded to the Dunellen Train Station for the report of property damage. The victim reported extensive damage to a bicycle which had been secured on the premises.
On 6/6/2017 at 3:08 pm – Police responded to Center Street for the report of an attempted burglary. They located a small window which appeared to have unsuccessfully been tampered with in an attempt to gain entry to the home.
On 6/6/2017 at 9:19 am – Police responded a North Avenue business for the report of shoplifting. Employees reported that a man had entered the store and removed several items without paying.
On 6/5/2017 at 9:41 pm – Police responded to a Lincoln Avenue business for the report of an armed robbery. Employees reported that two unknown male suspects entered the store and displayed a handgun. This case has been turned over to the Detective Bureau.
On 6/4/2017 at 2:19 am – A Piscataway resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on South Washington Avenue. He was brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released to a sober family member.
On 6/3/2017 at 10:46 pm – A Front Street resident reported several unauthorized charges on her bank account.
On 6/3/2017 at 6:02 am – Police responded to Front Street for an unresponsive person. Upon arrival, they located a deceased man surrounded by evidence heroin and narcotics paraphernalia. Investigation has been turned over to the Detective Bureau.
On 6/2/2017 at 9:49 pm – A Fairview Avenue resident reported a residential burglary which took place earlier in the day. An unknown actor entered the dwelling and removed a laptop as well as a safe containing several vital documents. This incident remains under investigation.
On 6/2/2017 at 11:04 am – A South Plainfield resident and a Bound Brook resident were arrested for contempt of court following a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue. The South Plainfield resident was found to have an active warrant out of New Brunswick and Bound Brook resident had warrants out of Union Township and Old Bridge. Both were brought to Dunellen Police Headquarters for processing and later released after receiving new court dates.
On 6/2/2017 at 8:49 am – Police took a walk-in report of credit card fraud. This incident remains under investigation.
On 6/1/2017 at 9:52 am – Police responded to a North Avenue business, adjacent to the previous report’s business, for the report of a burglary which took place sometime the previous evening. An investigation revealed a window which was likely entered, as well as approximately missing currency and a stolen laptop computer. This case has been turned over to the Detective Bureau.
On 6/1/2017 at 5:11 am – Police responded to a North Avenue business for the report of a burglary which took place sometime the previous evening. An investigation revealed that a rear door had been forced open and money had been removed from the store. This case has been turned over to the Detective Bureau.
