Are You Registered to Vote this November?

National Voter Registration Day will be held on September 27. The event is a concerted effort by organizations around the country to encourage voting in the upcoming general election. In 2008, 6 million Americans did not vote because they missed a registration deadline or did not know how to register. The deadline to register for the November 8 election is October 18.

To check or update voting information, go to http://nj.gov/state/elections/index.html. Once on the Elections website, click on the icon “AM I REGISTERED” in the center of the page and follow the prompts to verify information. If you cannot find your record or if it is incorrect, you will need to complete a new registration form and send it in to have your record updated.

Middlesex county registration forms are available online at http://nj.gov/state/elections/voting-information.html; from the Middlesex County Board of Elections at 11 Kennedy Boulevard, East Brunswick; or from the Dunellen Borough Clerk at 355 North Avenue, Dunellen. All forms are pre-addressed and postage paid. After completing the form and signing it, you can fold it in three (with the address on the outside) and drop it in the mail.

The Board of Elections’ normal operating hours are 8:30am to 4:15pm Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 8am to 6:30pm Tuesdays. The Board will be open until 9pm on October 18 (registration deadline for the November 8 election) to accommodate registrants.
For more information, contact the Board of Elections at 732-745-3471, or e-mail elections@co.middlesex.nj.us. The Dunellen Borough Hall is open Monday- Friday: 9am – 4:30pm.
