The University of Michigan freshman added his gold medal to the family collection… his sister Sydney, the Gatorade Girls National High School Track and Field Athlete of the Year, won the women’s 400m hurdle on Saturday and currently holds the American junior record in the event.

Although McLaughlin had won the preliminary round, the final win was not easy. “It was a little bit of a slow start, but overall I got what I wanted out there today to make the team. Now it’s all about recovery and getting my body ready for a whole new set of races.”

Those races will take place in Bydgoszcz, Poland where he will represent Team USA at the IAAF World Junior Championships in late July. Whether he will be there competing alongside his sister remains to be seen. Next week, she will be competing in the 400m hurdles at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, and according to NJ.com, if she makes the U.S. Olympic team, she would skip the IAAF event.
