Paint the Pavement Art Contest Now Accepting Entrants

Keep Middlesex Moving, Inc. is holding an art contest to promote awareness of distracted walking.

In 2005, there were 256 emergency room visits attributed to distracted walking. By 2010, that number rose more than 500%, not including visits to personal physicians. Whether texting, talking, listening to music, conversing with friends, or daydreaming, distracted pedestrians are a danger to themselves and others. Paint the Pavement is an educational campaign to raise awareness of distracted walking with painted messages or pictures on the sidewalk.

The contest is open to 11 and 12 grade students in Middlesex County High Schools and students enrolled in Rutgers University, Middlesex County College, or another institute of higher learning in Middlesex County.

In words or graphics, designs must convey a message related to distracted walking. Designers should consider that the winning designs may be painted on a sidewalk slab which could measure up to 36 square feet or 6’x6′.

Designs may be submitted electronically to rkarpinecz@kmm.org or by mailing to R. Karpinecz, Keep Middlesex Moving, Inc., 100 Bayard Street, 2nd Fl., New Brunswick, NJ 08901. Designs submitted by mail may be no larger than 8½” x 11″.

Designs must be received at KMM by Close of Business on March 28, 2016. http://www.kmm.org/paint-the-pavement.php
