“Quick and Easy Ways to Include Fruits and Vegetables in your Diet” is the topic of an upcoming workshop offered by the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County.
The class will take place from 12:15 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 at the EARTH Center in Davidson’s Mill Pond Park, located in South Brunswick at 42 Riva Avenue.
This workshop will demonstrate ways to get the most out of your meals by adding in extra servings of fruit and vegetables. Fruit and vegetables help to create a more flavorful and filling meal, and contribute greatly to overall health and well-being.
The Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health recently published research that found people who eat seven or more portions of vegetables and fruit a day have a 42 percent lower risk of dying from any cause, compared to those who eat less than one portion. They also enjoy a 31 percent lower risk of heart disease and a 25 percent lower risk of cancer.
“Join the Rutgers Cooperative Extension for this class, and learn how you can keep your family healthy through the meals you prepare,” said Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “I admire the commitment of the Rutgers Cooperative Extension, and their efforts to show Middlesex County how nature can enhance every aspect of our lives.”
The program is free, but registration is required by Oct. 14. Call 732-398-5252. No walk-ins will be permitted.
